O-ring behind bellows?

This is the third seadoo I have replaced the bellows and carbon seal in. Again I see a large O-ring behind bellows, I guess to tighten it up. I do not see this in any online video's or in the service manual. Is this something that seadoo did or is this an aftermarket fix? This is a 96 GTX. I seems a bit tight with it in there. The first one I did vibrated really bad such that I manufactured a collar to keep it still but it may have been to tight making it jump around. I have a 97 GTX in that doesn't have one installed and doesn't leak a drop. I'm going to ditch it and try it. Any feedback it appreciated.

I forget what years, but the XP had them. I want to say 98 or 99. Its too help put pressure on the seal.

When i had the pump out recently I put an O ring on behind my bellows of my 96 xp just to tighten it a touch.

I have a 97 GTX that had some carbon seal leaking.

I'm not an engineer, but I don't see the reasoning behind the carbon seal.

I removed the carbon seal on my 97 and ebay'd up an old style carrier bearing assembly from a 94 gtx. Just keep it clean and greased. No water problems in three years.

Just my opinion on carbon seals. I tend to not tinker with a problem that needs constant attention on a machine I rely on. If there is another option that will keep my machine from sinking I'm going in that direction.

The problem was nobody would lube the carrier/seal ones then it would seize and rip the through hull fitting out and sink the ski.
So the carbon seal was a fix for people that wouldn’t do basic maintenance.

Yes, true.

It needs up keep and I'm in my machines enough to check them.

From a "user" vs "hands on" stand point the carbon seal makes better sense.

Sinking would be a bummer.

Yeah I bought the OSD set. That's what I'm putting on. I feel like this is enough tension with the new bellows. I'm doing a small restoration on this one carbs, stator, seal, seats, buff, exhaust repair, and hoses so it'll be a couple weeks before i get it to the water.

Thanks Guys
