Not getting up and going

Recently I bought a 97 Sea Doo GSX Bombadier. I have had NO issues with it until today. while I was out on the water, my PWC suddenly revved very high and had no more thrust. The motor would run, but there was nothing pushing. When I looked inside the engine compartment, I saw a rubber grommet where the drive shft goes into the power plant torn off and the teeth of the shaft showing about 1" out of the plant. I know I am going to have to have this fixed but what was the possible cause and how bad is it? any help here would be greatly appreciated!

Did you go over something that was sucked up into the intake like sticks, rocks or some garbage?

I just had a very similar problem. Yes if that is not sealed it will not go.

We have been really careful not to even idle the engine in less than 6 feet of water. I don't think so, but who knows. Is this an expensive fix ... what can I do about it?

Thanks ... I will check into that issue as well. At least I have something to start with.
