hi there, had problems recently where my boat would drive for awhile then die and start the next day just on the port side engine. I did not check for spark as it was starting the next day. upon stalling this time i checked for spark and had none. This time it has not started since. I switched the coils around and still get no spark. i was just wondering what the two black boxes are that are to the middle of the coiles and tightened down with the same bolts. I was thinking they are cdi's but it says cdi right on my coil. Any suggestions? I read to unplug black and red wire I believe it was which goes to mpem and if there was spark the board was gone. Still no spark. i also read to disconnect 2 yellow wires at the rectifier. I will go check that now. Would appreciate any help you have to offer. it does not show the two black boxes in between the coils in my book. would like to know what they are and if there was a way to test if they are working without taking everything apart and switching sides to see if it works on the star board side. thank you!

I just pulled the wires off of the voltage rectifier and I now have spark so does this tell me the rectifier is gone? Thank you for your help!

The regulator shouldn't effect the ignition. UNLESS.... it's passing bad voltage to the MPEM. Did you check the output of the regulator before removing it?
