No F1 fuse in fuel baffle

My 1996 GTI does not have the classic F1 fuse. Mine has a cylinder type fues which seems to be working fine. I get resistance from the fuel float by testing off the circuit board. But I don't have continuity between the pink and pink/black wires to the circuit board. Has anybody else come across this. It is like there is an internal break from the wires to the board but it seems to be buried in the plastic and impossible to find. Also it is both wires that don't have continuity to the top of the board. Any help?

F1 fuse...

Yes, I had that same problem with my Challenger. When I tested the resistance at the board itself, right where the two wires came in from the cap, it worked. Then, I checked continuity between where the wire was soldered between the board and plug. I found one of my wires was dead. I ended up cutting that wire, drilling a hole into that cap piece and soldered it in place to where the old wire was. It works fine now.......

Wire solder

That confirms I'm not crazy. Thanks. Both of my wires don't have continuity to the board. Does the pink/Black connect to the side that has the fuse in the circuit close to the wire/board connection point? Or does it matter.

Thanks.

fixed

After cutting 4 holes in the baffle and drilling two small holes I now have 18ohms on the full reading and 90ohms on the empty. Hopefully that is close enough to get a rough idea of the fuel level. I had to to drill two holes right on top of the connection points at the top of the board. Then I soldered the pink and pink/black wires to the connectors. Hopefully they hold with all the vibration.

By George, I think you got it!

Yeppers....sounds like you did a good job. Now, attach it to your connector to the gas gage, power up and turn the baffle upside down to see if you get a result in the gas gage. Then, put it all back together.........good job!
