No compression on the front cylinder GS 720

So a friend of mine bought a cheap 98 GS (white) 720 I think. Tested compression and the front cylinder had maybe 10psi, the back cylinder had 130.

Where should we start?

Pull the head and find the damage.

Top end gasket kit is a bit optimistic you think?

Yes, if it is that much lower you have mechanical damage.

OK so removed the head.....

Pretty much expected with those compression numbers. Crank is probably trash now too.

Oh dear so looks like a full rebuild then?

Yup. Not just a top end. All that debris is in the base now and could have damaged the bearings.
