i need help, i bought a 96 xp and it wasn't running at the time, the guy told me it ran fine but he blew the starter...he was right, the starter gear was actually broken off in the starter..anyway, ordered a new one, installed it..don't have my carbs or pipe on yet but i hooked up the battery to see if it would turn over..it didn't..then i realized i had the little black coil wire on POSITIVE instead of negative..i know this was a big boo boo....

switched it over to the negative post, the sea-doo turns over great but has absolutely no spark...

i checked all the fuses and there was one blown, the 10a in the back where the coil is...i've tried several sets of plugs, have taken off the stator cover and inspected in there, all looks good.....

how do i determine if i have signal from my stator to cdi, to mpem to coil...etc

i assumed it was my stator before i started reading and ordered another one off ebay, i don't mind if it isn't, i'll keep it as a spare but i want to get the sea-doo running asap so want to determine if i ordered the right part or if its the mpem or coil instead

(the mpem does chirp twice when i plug the lanyard in and guages work)

hoping someone can take me through this step by step, i have some mechanical knowledge but electrical...not so much

light test the white wire at coil, while hitting starter button. If it lights up, then clip your plug wires and/or replace the coil. If it does not light up, pull the mag cover off an check out the pick-up bracket. Those years skis with the 800cc, were notorious for brackets breaking, also inspect the stator assy for burnt out wires.

make sure you have a full charged battery and make sure you have the small ground wire (black) conected to the battery. If its not connected you will not get spark.
