Hi, everyone. I just started getting into the web form... I have alittle problem with my 97 sea doo 1800 chanllenger. I threw a rod in my starboard motor and had to have it replaced. I installed the new motor and tried to insure that I installed everything correctly and also purged the oil and fuel lines, The shop that I purchased the motor from said they rebuilt the carbs when the motor was out. After working on installing the motor for 3 - 4 week ends I found that the starter was bad so I replaced it. The motor turns over and will try to start sometimes but I've yet to get it to run. Could use any suggestions on how to make sure the carbs are working alright or how to do a initial set up....

Welcome.

If the engine is cranking well... I would pour a little pre-mixed fuel down the carbs, and see if it will start. If it doesn't... then there are other problems.

Since you didn't do the work on the engine... and since it was running when it popped... we will assume the electrical is OK. The first place I would look is to make sure the rotary valve is in time.

Thanks Doc, I put gas in the carbs and it sputtered but did not start. The carbs and fuel filter were looking pretty bad so I had the carbs rebuilt and replaced the fuel filter, This still did not work. I am thinking the timing is off, since this was a SBT remanufactured motor I thought the timing would have been set correctly, Am I ASSuming too much? also where can I go to get info on how to check the timing? Sorry it took so long to repost had to work to pay my bills.. Bill E.
