new to the forum and to PWC!

long story short, i have a friend who has a 2001 GTI and GTX, that did not winterize them for 2 years in a row :banghead: , now he just bought a house and had a baby so has no time for them and basicly "gave" them to me to use if i can get them running, he doesnt even have a way to tow them anymore..

last year, he had the carbs rebuilt, and a tuneup done (altho they put diffrent plugs then seadoo recomends (BPR8ES) and they did not look like marine plugs), and the pump replaced ont he GTX, nothing else was seen to be wrong, this year is a diffrent story, both heads cracked on the exhaust sides, he jb-marine welded them, the GTI runs, just kinda rough, he says the GTX runs alot better, just as he put it "doesnt pump water", also the GTI smoked ALOT when we first fired it up, havent tried starting the GTX yet, its out of oil...

what should i be looking for to make it not pump water?

also there is a vacuum looking hose laying in both ski's thats not hooked to anything, havent followed to see where the otherside goes yet, is that supposted to be there?

any advice on getting these to run/run better would greatly be appreciated.

I think the bigger question you might need to ask yourself is should you put money into a ski you do not own???? Say you put money into one or both of these skis and your friend needs money. He sells the ski and your out the money, your time and maybe a friend. Seen this too many times. Use caution.

with cracked heads, almost a given, that the cylinders are cracked to, just you cant see them.

you can do compression test, but i'd pull the cylinders and inspect for crack/s in the sleeves....got some time on your hand, bud.

ok, so i got to look at the GTI a little lastnight, it wasnt the head that cracked, it was leaking at the gasket between the head and exhaust... i sanded the jbweld off of it, and im picking up a new gasket today, the mating serfices still look smooth and flat. compression test came back at 140 and 145

and i foundout the other is not a GTX, its a GTS, the previous owner put diffrent stickers on it...

the GTS runs perfect, compression was 155 on both, but its not pumping any water, started it, turned the water on and..... i have no idea where the water was going, but it wasnt coming out of anywhere, so i quickly turned the water then ski back off, is there a way to pressure flush them or something, im prettysure its blocked.

found the blockage, blew out a nice lump of crap from it...
the oil bottle was leaking, so i pulled that looks like a bad grommet, ordering a new one from local dealer tomorrow.

When skis sit for a long time, especially outdoors, wasps tend to fill any holes they can with their mud nests. They can fill up the end up a flush fitting preventing water from circulating through the motor.
