Hello All,
I just purchased a 1997 Speedster. On the test drive the boat ran fine and looks to be in good condition for a 13 year old boat. The only problem that I see (previous owner pointed it out to me) is water trickling in through the aluminum block where the weedless cable goes through the bottom of the boat. There is a black rubber/plastic grommulet looking part there that also threads down into the block and surrounds the cable. This barrule is broken where the threaded part meets the head. The parts locator that I used listed it as a "BARRURE CABLE *LOCK-CABLE ". When the boat is running I can't see any water coming in, turn the engines off and viola there comes the water. There is not a lot of water coming in mind you, but there is trickling. The cable kit cost around a hundred dollars, this barrule cost three to five. Here is my question. Is it possible to replace this barrule by removing the cable from underneath and pulling it up allowing you to replace the barrule alone? I haven't done a lot of work on these jet boats in the past, but nonetheless am pretty good with a wrench. I have rebuilt all types of engines and restore old motorcycles and golf carts, I would just like an opinion from someone who is more familiar with this than myself. Any help would be appreciated.
