Just picked up my first PWC after lurking on here a bit. I work on two strokes a good deal and went with a seadoo as The Rotax engine has a good rep and is what powers my Drakart off road buggy so I already have some experience on them. Went with the 787 after positive research on the models. This GSX looks great and has 150 psi of compression. The info gauge is dead so I have no idea of the hours but I'm thinking not a whole lot... either that or it was rebuilt but then I see no fresh marks on the motor to make me think it has been disassembled anytime recently. Still has the grey fuel lines, how do you guys get to all of these to change them out? I cant even fit my hand around some of the places that they go. I think the gauge is repairable from another thread I saw. If you look closely at it, you can just make out the top half of 12:00 when I turn it on. If i fix the gauge will the hour meter be correct? What is the consensus of premix and the reliability of the injectors? They make me nervous and I am used to permix with maxima 927, top quality stuff and the motors I tear down that have ran this still have the groves on the piston skirts, after turning 9k rpms regularly. Seems that stuff wont work for the injectors though so that leans me even more towards bypassing them. If you look closely at the motor paint is flaking off in some spots. This thing had been ran in salt water some so I am guessing that helped eat away at the paint a bit.

here are some pics ... my daughter thinks she has to be a part of every picture I take as you can tell ..

if u decide to do the gauge fix ill be happy to split the cost on the polarization film.its like 25 bux or so theres a company here in tx that makes it all i want is half the sheet u can order it or i can its up to u.i maybe goin to the city where the company is just not sure just yet i can just pick it up if they allow it.its 4 hrs away so im not sure when ill be goin but i suspect in a cpl of weeks if ur not in a hurry.as for the fuel lines yes some are in some bad spots i had trouble myself but i eventually got them all.as for premix seems like the general consensus here is to do it so its one less worry u have.i did on all 3 of my skis altho u burn alot more oil over injected oil

thanks for the help, may go the film route as my gauge seems to be repairable. Any other thoughts on the condition of my ski or the premix problem? Some seem to think the injector pumps are pretty reliable and oil failures are the result of poor lines or filters. The cheap side of me likes the idea of using less oil.

i run my injectors and have never had a problem. i simply keep on eye on my oil consumption. i can smell it burning as well. ;)

i love my 97 gsx and will never part with it. i'm thinking of getting 3 more, "just in case".
