New to me 2011 GTI 155 LTD

I have been hanging out on the 2 Stroke Sub-Forum since I bought my first ski last year. I have contracted the SeaDoo Acquisition Disease and just recently purchased a 2011 GTI 155 LTD with 70 hrs.

A brief search did not turn up anything, but does anyone have any "watch-out-fers" on this model / Year?
 
Though there were/are issues with the 155 engine, the 2011 is good to go.

The 155 engine is pretty rock solid. You can get 1000's of hours on it. Change the oil each season and you will have years of happy riding.

The PO told me that synthetic oil (5w-40, I think) was changed by the dealer, I have the bill, and is good for 25-50 hrs. So I KNOW is was not changed in the fall.

What is your experience?

50 hours is the norm. In most cases, many don't get 50 hrs a season and just change it at the end of the season. This is what I do and the reason why is, I do not want the dirty oil sitting in my engine over the winter months (I moved to FL in September so I no longer have the normal winter months). I would be ready to go in the summer time by using this method. Now that I am in FL, I'll pay more attention to the 50 hour rule.
 
Thanks. I am North of Atlanta and it seems our winters have been getting worse. I change the oil in the boat every year, but it is conventional. I have also seen the kits on Amazon. Can't see it hurting anything if I do them at the same time.

Just aquired a 2011 155 limited myself, only 27hrs as rich guy traded up for newer one instead of just replacing battery on this one. Best friend works at dealership so he hooked it up. Let me have it for 5300.00, 6014.00 out the door. He literally had 3 guys try to give him retail to buy it from underneath me but he wouldnt do it. Will be my first ski and im stoked. Just waiting for water to warm a bit here and ill be taking her out. Finding a trailer was a bit of a headache but finally found nice aluminum one which is great since ill be in saltwater.
 
Schweet!!!! That is way below book and a cool grand less than mine! Is it the LTD?

Yeah its the limited. It is for sure a super deal, he had to basically convince his boss and just used his "one time" with him to make the deal for me. Ive had him on the lookout for a quality used one since a trade in on a 2010 gti 130 with 23hrs on it fell through last summer that i was banking on. Man am i glad cause this ski is def better in all aspects. Have u taken yours out yet? I doubt i will for another good month or so but im chompin at the bit.
 
Have not had it out this year, yet. The lake I use is In the North Georgia Mountains ( 1070 ft above sea level) and the latest water temp report shows between 55 and 60 degrees. We are planning on going out next Friday, weather permitting.

Yikes that's cold and me and cold water don't get along very well lol. I doubt it's that cold here in Jax but I typically don't hit the water until June at earliest lol but i'm feeling like i will be making an exception this year. Can't wait to cruise the shore and having cruise control seems sweet. You'll have to let me know how she rides when you go out, since i'll be using mine in the ocean i'll obv be dealing with quite a bit more chop than you but i've heard this ski is comfy and takes the rough stuff pretty well. My buddy test drove when he picked it up on the trade in after jumping the battery and said it runs like a champ, 0-60 easy on the smooth stuff. My only previous experience is rentals which topped out at 45mph which felt like flying in water so i can only imagine what 60 feels like. You plan on doing any tubing or pulling with it? I would like to get something to pull so i can go out with friends and have numerous people enjoying in the fun.
 
I understand that there is a big advantage to the hump seat when you are cruising. So I am looking forward to that. I also have an 01 GTX RFI, which gets up over 50. It does not have that hump seat that provides support and after an hour or so, I can really feel it in the back. I don't know what the top speed of our model is, but at over 50mph, hope you don't hit a bug. That is plenty fast for me.

I do not plan to tow. I have a boat that we use for tubing and a 4 person towable. Mine also does not have the tow bar, but I understand it has enough power.

Our model tops out about 58 mph in sport mode on calm water from what i read and my buddy did say he hit that on the test run. Yeah i don't think i'm doing over 50mph too often, no fun hitting anything, including the water at that speed.

You will truly enjoy the ski. I would not try to modify the engine too much. There is a difference in the 215 vs the 155 engines. Has to do with a lower compression engine and what not. (215, 255 and 260 have lower compression as the volume of air is increased due to the Super Charger). Be happy with what you have and enjoy it. The 155 engine is a great engine and you can get 1000's of hours out of it.
 
Thanks Coastiejoe, I have absolutely no plans to do anything to the engine other than routine maintenance so it runs well for as long as possible. 155hp is plenty in the water for me, i'm just happy to get out and cruise the shoreline and i prefer comfort on long trips over speed.
 
I just picked mine up yesterday! I only spent about 20 minutes on the water, but I noticed a few things. When starting my 01 GTX, the cranking is strong and speedy. Starting the 11 GTI, while quieter, seems a much slower rpm. Is it normal for it to sound like that? It does start and run fine, but maybe the battery is on its last legs? It is a lead acid and was fully charged. It just sounded.....funny. Is that the 4 tec?

Also, my owners manual says XPS II full synthetic or 5w-30 or 10w-40. At least SJ.

All the new oils are up to SM or SN now, so that's easy. Would Castrol GTX Syntec work? Just curious more than anything, the Castrol is $8 per quart around here, I have to order the XPSII.

Handling: the 01 GTX handles like a sports car, the 11 GTI has more slide in the turns. More a drifter. The hump seat is waaayyy more comfortable.

I did say it was only 20 minutes.

Thats awesome dave, really contemplating braving the cold water this weekend. My buddy says ill barely even get wet, this true dave in ur 20 min test?
 
Yup. Should have mentioned that difference. Foot wells are completely dry, no water over the bow, but I never took it over 30 mph. It was not a nice day, so the only other people in the lake were fishermen. My feet were always wet in my older GTX.

Awesome, i've always heard that Seadoo's had a nicer ride than their rival Yama's. I've never ridden a Yamaha but after riding my first seadoo i was sold on em. Plus i'll be doing all salt-water riding, so the closed loop system was a big draw for me. Seems general consensus on most pwc forums is that yamahas are the workhorse of pwc world and seadoo are high maintenance and costly. I'm hoping i'm wrong and my buddy prefers seadoo's and has told me of customers trading in their yama's for doo's and never returning with any regrets. How many hours does your GTX have and how has it faired through the years?
 
We have 6 guys in our normal ride group. Everyone has SeaDoos. The 2011 I bought came from one of the guys in the ride group. He bought it new. He wanted a new one with the suspension seat, I bought his 2011. I obviously watched this machine run all last year, since it was his primary machine. He gave me every receipt, as all work was performed by the dealer (Gainesville Motor Sports). He had the normal service after break-in and service at 50 hours. I have 78 hours on the machine. There were 2 things that the dealer replaced on recall and that is it. That's why I asked about the oil in a previous post.

If you go back to my 01 GRX RFI, I bought it last year with 104 hrs on it and I know the PO did not do 100hr service. I had the dealer perform the 100hr service, check the electrical system and perform a compression check. All good. I changed the plugs once last year on it.

All of the other guys in our group have similar experiences on maintenance, so I don't think this is an exception.

Well that is very good to know and I was set on seadoo regardless and more than willing to take my chances, especially with the deal i walked into with this ski. I kinda think it's funny how everyone brings up rentals and all rental places using yamaha's because of reliability. I went to the keys a few years ago with an ex and we took a jet ski tour and the place we rented through used Seadoo's. At the time i didn't know much about ski's but i really liked the ride of the seadoo. Our tour guide told us about another tour he used to work for that used Yama's and how awful they rode compared to seadoo's and that the people on those tours always complained about water in their face and how rough the ride was. Throw in the fact that seadoo's are imo best looking ski's with best technology and it was no brainer on what i was looking for. If the weather is nice i may go out for a brief ride this weekend just to get a feel for the ole girl.
 
Didn't get the ski out last weekend, weather wasn't too great and hopefully it'll be better this weekend. I'm bringing it in next week to get the recall done, which works out also because in order to get my trailer registered i have to get it weighed without the ski and will do it while ski getting recall done. Put anymore time on it since your first outing Dave? Thoughts if so
 
Finally got ski out with a buddy and man does this thing move. With 2 170lb+ guys on i was up over 50mph easy and i literally had to try to get wet on this thing. Went out for a couple hrs and came back with a lil more than a half tank of gas. What a sick ski, i was in ocean and dealing with tons of chop and some really big waves once i got out past jetties and the ski handled em like a champ....good day and great ski
