New to me 2002 GTX, hasn't been ran in a few years

New to the site, please forgive me if I post something dumb.

I got a 2002 GTX from my uncle for $500, it is the plain GTX model with 951 carb motor. No one has run it in a few years. I am new to 2 strokes and owning a PWC and I am wondering what I should do to get this thing back on the water without any issues.

Here's what I did before cranking it over:

-Drained fuel and replaced with fresh. Fuel lines appear to have been replaced, there is one gray line I can see on the carbs that looks like it would be hard to get to. This makes me think the carbs weren't pulled when the fuel lines were replaced.
-Charged battery
-New spark plugs
-Checked compression (120 and 115, not great but it'll do)
-Greased zerks on PTO shaft
-Verified there was oil in the tank but did not replace. I plan to drain and replace before I take it out again.

After all of that I cranked it over and started it up. Being new to two strokes it seemed to idle pretty rough, but I'm sure that's normal compared to a 4 stroke motor. After I got it running I took it down to my buddy's and ran it for 5 or 10 minutes in the water. Seemed to run great, no hesitation, and overall behaved as expected. I think I had it to 52 or 53 MPH on GPS.

Here are my issues:

Idle RPM: I originally set the idle on the trailer to FSM specs, but once I had it in the water it was low. The best I could do was set it so that on the trailer the idle is about 200 over what the FSM said was normal and in the water it was 200 under what the FSM said. Not sure what's up with that?

WOT RPM/Speed: It was a hundred or two RPM lower than it should be at WOT and I think it should be more like mid 50s than low. I haven't checked the pump at all and with the compression a little low I'm not overly worried about this.

Vibration/Rattle on Trailer: When idling on the trailer it randomly makes a nasty vibration type noise. Almost like a bad bearing or something. I was trying to find info on this but couldn't find much. I read somewhere someone said that it was due to the impeller/shaft spline slop with a no load condition.

Any input would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the SeaDoo forum. It would help us to help you if you would tell us what part of the United States you live, and to put it in your profile, also if you would put your ski in your profile.

Actually your issues are few, maybe none. 200rpms, your ski redlines at around 7000rpm so 6800rpm, in my opinion is close enough. Actually it really doesn't matter what the idle is on the trailer, generally it should be around 3000rpm or so, and the important idle speed should be about 1500rpm in the water.

The rattle you are hearing is known as the SeaDoo rattle, and it normal, as long as your not hearing it at above idle in the water you're O.K.

Your top end speed is probably O.K., maybe a little low, considering your compression, it's also somewhat dependent on the condition of the impeller and wear ring.

Thanks for the input, I guess it is pretty much good to go. It's got some cosmetics I need to address, needs the seat recovered (already have the vinyl) and the thing needs a total compound and polish because it's faded all around. Worse part is the "hood" is smashed up from it looks like someone running it under a dock, probably one of my cousins. It's been a while since I did any fiberglass repair but I will do it up and paint the repair black to match the trim and call it a day.

Congratulations on having no major problems. However, there are some things that are considered maintenance items that need to be addressed.

1. This may or may not be a problem, I'm not sure if Seadoo was still using grey tempo fuel lines in 2002, check and see if you have the grey fuel lines.
2. You need to service the oil injection system, change the filter, if the injector lines are brittle they will need to be changed.
3. Change the pump oil, while you're at it check the condition of the wear ring and impeller.

If you need any help with any of this just let us know.

Most of the lines are black except for one or two small grey ones that are connected to the carbs. I'm not sure what exactly they are. I don't know if the main black lines are factory or not. I'll have to look into this.

I didnt even realize there was oil in the pump. I'll look into that and service the injection system too. Thanks.

Awesome, I really didnt feel like messing with all of that.

Here's another question. I read about people saying not to mix oils because they could gel or something. I have no idea what kind of oil is in this thing now. I am assuming that if I drain the system up to the filter I should be fine to fill with whatever oil is recommended?
