Hey ya'll. I am new to the Sea-doo jetskis. I just purchased 2 1999 GTX Limiteds with the 951 motor. Just wanting to hear thoughts about this ski. I sold 2 Yamaha Wave-Raider 1100's for these, so that I could get the storage and the reverse gear. Are these pretty good skis? What kind of speed and performance can I expect? Are they reliable?

The previous owner took them to the beach a couple times, so there is some corrsion on the motors. It's only in a couple spots. Is this something that I need to be concerned about, or just clean it and go? I have not had a chance to clean the engine compartments yet, but I think that they will clean up nicely.

They have 180 hours on them. The exterior looks almost brand new. I am really happy with the looks of the skis.

Would really appreciate any tips, do's and dont's, or comments about this model.

Thanks

Keep an eye on the compression - I bought mine with 150 hrs on it, and a shattered piston. I have seen a lot where the piston to cylinder clearance gets excessive, it rattles in the bores, and the skirt shatters. If taken care of, the engines will last. If not, the result can be spectacular. We have been running ours for 2 trouble free years now.

Good deal. Any recommendations for the bast wat to take care of them? I,ve changed both fuel and oil filters, plugs, drained the old gas and put in new, drained and filled the oil, it has impellers and 1 is getting a new stator. What compression is good?

Thanks for your help...

I have a '98 GTX LTD, and love it... had 296 hours on it before it blew up... had the engine rebuit, and back on the water!

whers cornelius? i'd replace the grey fuel lines, and go thru the carbs, to clean the lil filters in them. Clean the raves, and replace the pump oil

Cornelius is in North Carolina just North of Charlotte.

All of the fuel lines are a redish color. I am thinking that they have been changed. How do I clean the RAVE valves?

When you say "pump oil", do you mean the mixing oil in the tank?

Thanks....

remove the lil air line assy goin to each..(just pull(, then remove the 2-allen bolts, securing each base. Once removed, just lift them up/out. dont lose the o-ring seal, thats under the base.

I just bought a 96 gti and it had some corrosion on the motor. The mechanic said it wouldnt be any problem as long as I rinsed it down after I rode it in salt water. Also he advise that after I rinse the motor and dried it to apply some w/d 40 for protection. Be careful not to get water in the airbox.
Also, the inside of my hull was really dirty and I sprayed it with degreaser (carefully) and then rinsed it (carefully) Now the inside looks great.
The mechanic cleaned the carbs for me and some people recommended using seafoam. I used the seafoam sparingly. Also, I replaced the spark plugs the other day and it is more responsive.

I'm a newbie so I am very careful what I do to my ski. i follow the advice of Dr. Honda and Lou Doo. Those guys seem to know a lot and have not steered me wrong. Have fun!! good luck!!
