Hey guys,

Just picked up these skis for a steal of a deal with the double trailer. Not positive on year until I get titles, but mid 90's. The yellow XP has a 720 and trim, new jet pump and trim works. Runs great and test out compression wise. Unknown if gauges work (will know tomorrow) and comes with battery too. He said the oil level light is always on and said it needs that sensor and he was just gonna do a block off. I don't wanna do this and starve the rotary valve. Doninneed anytbing other than a sensor or start here? The green ski is going to my buddy and has electrical issues. 720 too. SPX.

So where do I start with the oil issue? How can I clean up the motor and inside of hull? What do you guys recommend to get the exterior of hill back to shiny and glossy? And same with the hood and plastics, how do I get the color back? I'm probably going to remove the graphics and put a yellow or black rub rail on it. I thought about hitting the yellow pices with krypton fusion paint.

The trailer is getting stripped, primed and painted, and rewired.

I got everything for less than a grand.

Thoughts on the ski?

95 xp and 96 spx. They are basically the same ski except for colors.

Oil light could be the sensor or gauge. Use Super Clean and a pressure washer to get the hull spotless again.

Thanks!

The XP is going to get a yellow seat cover, black hull decals, removing other hull decals, and painting grab bar, hood, and bar pad yellow. If I paint my rub rail yellow is it gonna chop and show purple at the dock? Does anyone make a full yellow bar pad?

Thoughts on this color scheme (left) vs all yellow? I already have the black seat cover and I'm assuming it would be easier to keep black clean.

For the exterior hull you are going to need to wet sand, buff, and Polish. Those look pretty faded and will come back but it will take some effort. The spx I built last winter started in better shape and I still spend 12+ hours but it looked like new when done.

As for the hood and handle bar you can use soft scrub and scotch Brite pads but that too will take some labor. Alternatively you can use a heat gun to bring the plastic back. I have had good luck with a propane torch as its quicker than the heat gun.

My 98 spx has the same base colors and here is how it turned out.

Thank you! Torch is a great idea. Are you talking about the liquid scotch bright and pads? What buffing and polishing compounds do you use? What is involved in changing the rub rail? I know it's a 90's ski but I can't stand the purple. How do I remove the factory purple foot well plastics? Is that hydroturf?

Wow ANK..... that ski looks great! Love the blacktip elite mats... don't like the purple? Here is some purple for yah... for inspiration....mine looked just like yours...

Fleabay.... 50 for seat cover... 10 for stainless staples. Feeling of doin it myself and it turned out GREAT....PRICELESS!

Watercraft superstore has a black Friday sale where everything blacktip is 50% off. If you can wait a month it's a pretty good deal for seat covers, traction mats, etc.

I can wait! These aren't going in the water till next year.

How do you guys trouble shoot skis that have issues starting during winter? The barn will only. E heated when I'm working on it and I don't wanna winterize it 10 times lol

For the hood softscrub with bleach and a green scotch brite pad then Wipe New. It will look new and won't chip like paint.

Got them today. Trailer should be an easy grind and paint. They are at the shop and the green one is getting diagnosed so we'll see how bad it is. Hope to start cleaning them up in a day or two!
