New Sea-doo owner

Hey everybody. I am a new Sea-doo owner and also new to the forum thing. Just wanted to give it a try.

I just purchased 2 1999 Sea-Doo GTX Limiteds. I have not even had them in the water. Just wanting to see what everyone thinks about the 99 GTX Limited with the 951 engine. Any goods and bads? I am stepping up from 2 Yamaha Wave-Raider 1100's. They were pretty quick at 62, but had no storage and options like the reverse gear.

I got what I thought was a super deal, becuase 1 ski needs a stator installed. I have the exhaust off and am down to the stator housing. Any suggestions or do's and dont's from this point?

Also, the previous owner took them to the ocean 2 times and they have not been in the water since April of last year. They have 180 hours. I am seeing some corrosion on the motor. Do I need to worry about that? It seems to be pretty minor and I have yet to clean the engine compartments.

Just wanted to hear some thoughts.

if at all possible, do not break the pipe in half. Also, for corrosion setting in, its just the paint coming off, so in the future, spray silicone spray on everything, if run'n in salts.

What makes u think, it needs a stator? Did it have spark? You test the white wire at coil/s? Clip the sparkplug wires at boots' ends', 1/4in back?

The guy I purchased them from took it to a repair guy for a charging issue. The mechanic said that the stator was bad.
I am learning here, so bare with me. Is the stator for the charging system or for the spark? It does run, but doesn't charge the battery.

:agree: had the same problem on my gts. and i envy you man i have been looking every where around my area for a 98-99 gsx-l, it is my dream ski. i have some links lying around from some research i did a while back on the gsx-l upgrades. also since you have the already apart and i assume your new to seadoos you might want to check out the fuel line and the oiling system. if the fuel line are the stock grey you might want to replace them since you already have the ski apart.

So the stator has nothing to do with it charging? Where is the recifier loctaed?

Yeah, all the fuel lines are a reddish color. I did go ahead and replace the in-line filter coming out of the oil tank. I am assuming that since the fuel lines are not grey, that they have been replaced.

Sorry bud, been awhile since being here/wrenching on these....summer thing. Anyway, the rectifier, unfortuntly, is encased inside the mpem, however there is a kit, that "creates" an external rectifier, so no more goin thru this process again.

If you google, "951 external rectifier", you'll find the answer/kit.
