Hello,

Well I finally pulled the trigger on a new RXT-X. With 1 hour on the ski I hit a submerged rock. I cannot describe how much of a sick feeling that was. After pulling the ski out I will consider myself very lucky. It got the intake grate, and ride plate mostly, but did scrape some of the curve of the fiberglass going up into the tunnel.

I am attaching a few pictures of the damage. It does not appear that I got into any fiberglass. Looks like just scraped the gel coat to me.

What do you all recommend doing? Do you think I will be fine leaving it alone? Should I apply some new gel coat over the scratch? What about the scrapes on the ride plate?

Any information is appreciated!!

It looks like most of the scratches are on the ride plate. Unless I am seeing something wrong.. If that is the case, you don't want to put anything on it as it affects the cooling ability as that is your heat exchanger. I would just use some sand paper and smooth the scratches is all.

If you have scratches on the hull, you could use some Gelcoat. From the pictures, it looks like it could have been MUCH worse..

I agree with Joe, looks like most risks are on the plate, not big deal (should not be).

You can check if the wear ring was affected, measuring the gap between blades and the ring.

But you could try drag it and see if you are experience some cavitation. If not, I believe you are fine.

Thanks for the answers guys. Eased my mind a bit. I will sand down the ride plate and try to get it smooth again.

You guys would not worry about the scratch in the fiberglass next to the intake grate? I do not think it's all the way through the gel but do not want to take any chances.

Does not look so bad, I would not worry about it. I´ve see a lot of scratches worse than that.
If you want to, just make sure it is not on gel and paint it black again with a brush.

Just some scuff marks. I hit one this weekend to and it ripped through gel coat into the fiberglass. It's on it way to the fiberglass shop and I'm on the phone with my insurance company. You got away easy from what I can tell in those pics unless I'm missing something.
