New owner and my fuel woes

I remember when I did this and the smoothness pulling tubes was wonderful, hope you get out on the water over the holiday, the weather is great.

hey lookin' good

that seat looks sweet! can you post a link to where you got the material?

also, I noticed those hand grips are kinda nasty. I found a cool solution to rotting old grips. Find some "Plasti-coat" in a local hardware or Home Depot. Its the stuff for dipping tools in to add rubber-like coating. Most places only carry black now. Years ago i got it in yellow and dipped the grips on my 95 SPI. Its still on them. Just purchased a can of red to do my 92 XP grips. Right now they're very tacky almost to the point of sticking to my hand. I'll try and do some pics before and after.

Happy motoring all!

thanks. Just look for seadoo seat cover on ebay. I paid somewhere in the $30's for mine and the color match is great. Thanks for the tip on the grips. I actually have used the black plasti-dip to black out badges on my suburban. It worked pretty well. I wonder if they have neon green :-)

Yes quite the feeling!! My buddy and I worked on the fuel lines, pulling the tank, EVERYTHING from 5:30 pm yesterday to 11:30 last night. THE SKI FIRED RIGHT UP!! PERFECT.

We went out on the lake first thing this morning and it ran like it was brand new!!! It was rough out but so much fun. This little ski loves to go vertical off of the big waves. I landed on my ass a couple times off of some of the bigger jumps. It accelerates like it did when it was new!!! out ran my friends 2002 GTX DI...

I'm so happy!! THANKS to everyone on here for tips and tricks, and all of the troubleshooting advice. Voodo, Dr. Honda and others had some great tips that made this go very smooth.

well boy's... i did mine... fuel lines, carb rebuild, clean raves, replace oil lines, new grommet's in oil tanks, spark plugs, and selector valves, fired one of em up last night, 1 tsp of pre mix in each carb and viola like brand new... gettin registered this weekend, polished monday and she's NEW again... now for the other one... i'm all done with it, just no $$$$ for oil so we'll see saturday how she runs... it was surging a little before the rebuild at wot from 4500-7000 and back so i pray this was the fix it needed... if not i guess on to the rectifier!!!

When I rolled down to see the pic of the fuel transfer I had to cough my coffee, but diluting it this way makes a lot of sense with that high-tech adaptor.
As you prolly already know emerald necklace is agood place to dip and test on the trailer, avon is closer to the islands and edgewater puts you out in the deep end, neff road has too much crowding - I get too many car scratches over there.

Awesome!! I wish you the best of luck out there!!

I'll tell you what...I didnt do anything with the raves or the oil, oil tank....hmmm

So you did what drained the old oil, replaced it, replaced oil lines, oil filter, grommet's [i'm guessing because they were leaking].... did you do those tiny painted lines, too??

HAHA yeah that whole gas transfer thing was funny plus we had multiple beers in us.

Yeah I launch out of emerald necklace mostly but also the CYC in Rocky River. They have a davit for small small sailboats and PWC's.

As far as the islands, we are gonna trailer them up to Bay Point and Put-in-Bay this summer, if all goes well. Getting married in a couple weeks so I need to chill out on the skiing a little bit :-)

I am happily enjoying the beautiful summer weather out on the lake on my SPX. I've been working on getting it minty looking lately....Unfortunately the handlebar pad and the grab bar are seemingly not able to be restored, let alone cleaned well, which sucks. These are impossible to find in this teal color new, or barely used.

I do believe it is in quite good condition for being 15 years old, though.

or .....

get rid of it all together!

I decided to go bare. Just replaced my sea-doo bars with some Yamaha dirt bike bars. No pad. Pads are for those who plan on slammin' into something and don't wanna mess up their face. WUSSIES!

here's some pics

I see what you are going for. It's a decent look. Again, I'm trying to keep it stock looking. Also, my fiance would not be too comfortable riding with metal bars in her face, so the pad will stay. Haha.

Great thread. Not so sure about the bare handlebars!!!

bare bars

Lou,
Finally got to test and run the 92 XP I worked on some 4-5 weeks. Very impressive for a 587 with grooved rotary valve cover, Scored piston sidewalls and hadn't run in years. Will be posting a build thread when i get time to sit and write it all out. Got my story from total newbie to watercraft down to this recent build to tell. Think it will help many a younger man than me as they learn the potential of keeping old things running at their best.

bye the bye- bare bars are bitchin'! A whole different feel with the Yamaha dirt bars and the 92 shell as opposed to the 95 I am used to. I figure even at 40+MPH, if it stopped suddenly or god forbid I run into something, i ain't gonna eat the exposed hardware. The 92 feels a lot more skiddish! I LIKE IT!

I remembered your Thread last month, but forgot to tag it. I wanted to find the same fuel filter you bought at Auto Zone.

Last weekend I found them at O'Reilly's (formerly Kragen's) for $1.99 and as my luck has it, today I found your Thread. They were same-o-samo.

Thanks for taking the time to post a great Thread for us Shade Tree mechanics and especially me, an old dude approaching his 6 decade fast that I now realize after this project, needs reading glasses.

Last week after I finished replacing the crankshaft in my engine and looking on Craigslist for a choke cable, I met two youngsters who peddle used parts.

We got to shooting the bull and one asked me, "hey pops, when you put the pistons in the cylinders, you did make sure that the arrow that is inscribed on the top of each piston faced the exhaust manifold didn't you?

My reply, what arrow!!!

Fortunately, the head was easy to remove, only a dozen bolts to unscrew, then when I looked for the arrows, I couldn't see them.

Then, on went the reading glasses my daughter gave me a week earlier and on went the flashlight. Sure as heck, I did it right, following the instructions in my Clymer's manual. (although I overlooked the arrows, the instructions provided another way to insrue the taks was done properly)

Tonight, over six weeks since I began this project, I will bleed the oil lines and crank my Doo over.

If it cranks, then maybe install the Jep Pump.

The blades on my impeller are a tad dinged, but, since my 93 GTX ran great before my cranshaft went bad, I will save that task for another day and enjoy the rest of the summer.

I figured with the help from the boyz on this site I saved well over a grand changing out my CS and rebuilding my carbs by myself.

Big Dave from Mesa said it best: try to fix it yourself and learn from the project. If ya' screw it up, then send it out to the boyz that are supposed to know how to fix things. The worst that can happen is ya' miss 1\2 the summer and kinda waste time learning how to do something you just can't do at the moment.

In my project, it went fairly smoothly because I rarely cussed, until I could not find missing bolts which took a couple days of driving all over three counties to find replacements.
