Yeah thanks man. It does suck. The dealer on the other hand was confident that he could still get me a new unit. As much as I don't want to spend $1400+ on a new one it is good news that it may still be available.

I personally would go new. It's a hit but your still in the boat cheap. The reason is, your MPEM should have a big bow in it from the intense heat created in that little area. Mine was. My new one was perfectly flat. Any used one will be bowed also, and you will pay half the price. I think they all are destined to fail.

agreed, Mine had a nasty bow in it. I'm thinking about relocating it since i have it down.

I wouldn't relocate it. Moving the loom would be a nightmare. It also took it 12 years to bow that much. If that dealer seems confident then they must know where one is. That MPEM number must be an oddball, there is not that much online about vs my number.

yeah its a weird one apparently. Seems like some sites show it as discontinued and others say it is available. Crazy. I hope they can just get me a new one. At this point I would rather spend the money getting it running and save money by recovering the seats myself. I was going to have all of the upholstery sent out but I started working on it tonight. Doesn't seem like it will be that bad to recover them.

Might wanna wait on that... Engines are first priorty. Sadly, with no MPEM , you don't know what shape they are in. First thing is a compression test. Then go from there. I'm not sure, but if I remember right, you can jump the solenoid to spin the engine over and get your readings. Not sure how accurate they will be since it hasn't ran in awhile. Have you removed the plugs and tried turning the shaft to be sure the engines are free?

The dealer is doing all of the mechanicals right now. they have a ski MPEM running one engine at a time right now testing the engines and pumps. Basically per conversation I had today, they will be doing fuel lines, carb cleaning, compression test, pump test and servicing the wear rings. Basically making it mechanically sound.

Hope that's with the MPEM. If compression checks out you still have no worries. It'll be mechanically solid by dealer. You can use it several seasons and still get your money back.

Spent a few more hours searching. Absolute zero. Kinda wary if that dealer can actually come up with one. Emailed a guy on eBay who has a butt load of mpems. He said that one is very hard to find. Hmmmm..
On a good note.. There is a 98 boat on eBay as a project boat in Florida. It's up to 1300$

Hey thanks for looking man. I looked on ebay and did not see the boat you were talking about.

I think i'm going to go ahead and start gathering the parts i need to convert it to 2 separate mpem's. I think I would still come out cheaper than if I had to purchase a brand new mpem for the boat.

The boat has twin 717 engines. Does anyone know what ski's I would need wiring harness and mpem's out of and what all else I would need?

That sounds like it's gonna be a nightmare. Can the dealer tell you what MPEM they are using to work on it?

I am wondering if these units can be reverse engineered & rebuilt with new components. A friend of mine I work with is a eletronic engineer...he might be able to build new 1's if he had the blueprints, schematics, ect....maybe even some burt up units to work with.
Since seeing this post and how hard they are to find I was going to have him look at mine and build a replacement unit as well...just incase. Anyhow he says they souldnt be that technical and not that hard to replicate. Just a idea here.

Wow. I can't find a single MPEM for either of our boats!!.. Last year found many. Thinking these boats are worth more dead than alive now.
I thought you were gonna try the ski mpems?

Yeah it is no hope finding a new unit. I found a guy that has one but is being completely unreasonable. He does not know if it is good or not and he would not budge off of $500. I'm not about to drop that kind of money without knowing condition.
