Hey whatsup guys, I am new here just picked up my first jetski today. Needed a new toy other than cars so I purchased a 2012 GTI 130 in white/black/orange. I am picking it up on friday and have a few questions. I understand the break-in period is to take it easy and use the learner key for 10 hours, but my dealer is telling me I need to do a mandatory "first service" at the dealership which costs $397. Do I really need to do this to keep my warranty? I think its ridiculous that I need to spend $400 before I can even beat on my ski and take it WOT, but if thats what has to be done then I guess I have no choice. I usually do all my own maintenance on anything I own and really didnt wanna change that. If I just take it kind of easy for the first 10 hours and then change the oil would I be ok if I ever needed a warranty repair?

Also does anyone have any tip for me, being I'm a first time ski owner? I had a boat that Hurricane Sandy took from me so I do know the rules of the water and already have my license and I have also ridden my friends rxp 255 many times.

I will post some pics once I pick it up on friday! I am super excited and cant wait to get it on the water :D:D:D

Congrats on the new purchase. I took delivery of my Wakepro this Saturday and the break-in says 5 hours according to my manual and dealer service at 25 hours - but maybe yours is different. I did a 10 hour service on my GTX 155, but really just changed the oil. The break-in I follow is fairly simple and I used the regular key.

Don't keep it at one speed or RPM for too long. Some wide-open throttle dashes are good. Avoid full speed for any prolonged period. I tend to think this is more so that all of the component parts can be proven to be working in good order. Any way, I have 4 hours now and I've touched the top speed a few times. I'm finding it gets quicker as time passes.

Good luck with your new 130.

Thanks man!! The break in seems similar to that of my trx450r. Just drive it mildly for the first few hours without staying at a constant speed, and some 3/4 to WOT is ok after some hours are on it, but not for an extended period of time.

My main concern is about my warranty though. The current promotion running is giving me a 3 year warranty vs the base 1 yr, so I dont want to lose the 3 years cause I didnt pay the dealer $400 to literally just change my oil at 10hrs. I am going to try and contact seadoo regarding it. I was reading here that seadoo changed the first service to 20 hrs, and if thats the case I'll change the oil myself at 10hrs before really testing its limits then once I hit 20hrs take it in for the first service and pay the $400 if necessary

I don't buy the $400 service. Have the dealer change the oil...that should be fine for a new jet ski.

I agree. I'm not a fan of parting out with $400 for no good reason. Have them do an oil change or do it yourself. There's a thread on here with a video showing you how.
