my name is brandon im from around baton rouge La , bought my first ski yesterday a 96 gti , great shape 300.00 with trailer , it has sat in a shed for about 4 yrs now , previous owner said it ran fine before being parked , i started with a good cleaning at the car wash , including engine compartment , got a lil water in the carbs , i pulled them to rebuild today , and i used paper towels to dry water outta the engine , then i put some marvel mystery oil down the cylinders , im going to get some more fittings tommrrow for the fuel lines after i clean them

my first question , is how would i go about draining the old fuel, and oil and cleaning the tanks? next question would be where is the fitting for garden hose to run the engine outta the water?

i also gotta get new plugs as well the old ones looks pretty bad, what else do i need to expect to do to get this thing up and running again ? i have another battery as well , i know there is a lot to be done , and i dont know much about these things , my dad is a whiz at 2 stroke engines , he can rebuild them , service them , tune them ,so im not too worried there , i know i removed a bird nest outta the jet in the back today looking for the garden hose fitment

thanks guys

Change out the fuel lines, and the oil injection lines. Siphon the gas out, unhook the straps and the filler hose. then slide the tank out and unhook/take out the pickup. The fuel selector also needs to be taken out and cleaned, so I take that and the fuel/water seperator and all the hose out in one piece. Once the fuel tank is out you could prob pull the oil tank down and drain it w/o unhooking the hoses. Your right on that line of needing to replace the oil or just leaving it. Also make sure to test the fuel pickup b/c if its broken, nows the time to fix it. Read some other threads for instruction on that.

So that takes care of the fuel system...outside of that about the only other thing to do is check your prop/wear ring, and change the pump oil.

Welcome.

Everthing above... do it.

Since your dad knows about 2-strokes... there are a few SeaDoo specific things to know.

1) ONLY use an API-TC type oil. Most "Dirt Bike" oils, and common "Outboard Engine" oils will not work in a Rotax engine. (well, not for long)

2) NEVER try to jump start the ski... or crank the engine while hooked to a charger. The Computer (MPEM) is fragile and expensive, and they are known to eat themselves if they are turned on with extra voltage.

3) If you are cranking the engine with the sparkplugs out/disconnected... ground the wires so you don't damage the Ignition coil. (there is an orange plug on the engine to plug the wires onto)

Good luck.
