Hey everyone, I just got my first ski- a 1994 SP... I got it from my uncle who was sick of working on it. It runs great but fills with water in less than an hour. It doesnt fill with water when run on the hose so i'm thinking the hull is leaking somewhere. The exhaust is also completely filled with water, is that normal?? one of the pistons has a bunch of dings in the top, and can be twisted slightly so i'm thinking the wrist pin fell apart. I will probably end up tearing the motor down and rebuilding it, but first i have to figure out where it is leaking from... does anyone have any ideas?
Also, its the white motor- is it a 580 or 587?
If i can find a 717 or 720 with all the electronics, I would rather drop that in, or rebuild one and put it in.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

Check the drain plug, check the water inlet hose that comes through the hull off the pump in the back of the machine, check your exhaust coupling hoses, check your exhaust pipe while its off for any corrosion spots. Check your water outlet hose that its where it should be.

Theres a couple plugs welded into my 787 pipe, and one of them finally started leaking from corrosion. It was never used in salt either.

You could also check either the carbon seal or the drive shaft coupler, not sure what your ski has. If everything else checks out, while your ski is on the trailer, put some water in the hull, not too much, and see if its leaking out.

Or you can just back it up into the water and run it while its in the water on the trailer and look inside and see where the water is coming in at.
