Just had them in the shop about 3 months ago for usual service(new fluids, new batteries) Have had them out only 2 times this summer since it seems they have both developed the same problem.

Both ski's start and idle just fine, and when going full throttle the reverse lever jumps about an inch up, the engine goes 7-8K RPM and the ski just lags in the water and wont get up on plane. steering sucks except for low speeds and when the ski is in full reverse...it barely does anything.

I will say a coule other factors and hopefully somebody can tell me if they are valid or not.
-First trip out after the service we were around sand bars and possibly sucked up some sand into the intake...and like a newbie i didnt immediately flush them when i pulled them out of the water.
-Second...when i put them in the shop, they had very little "old gas" in them...I asked the shop to drain it but they said to just fill them with premium when i gassed up next time. I own 3 motorcycles so i admit i should have know better than that.

Any input would be great help.

Thanks

use a flashlight and look into the rear of the pump to check your wear rings - then look in from the intake grate to check the edges of your impellers - sounds alot like a cavitation issue - wear ring or impeller prob has dings in it - i just replaced mine and you would be surprised at how little dings or rolled edges on the blades can cause exactly what you describe. since you are getting high rpms i would lean away from the old fuel being the issue.
Make sure your reverse locking tab is engaging when you put the scoop all the way up - little metal tab on at the end of the reverse cable...
good luck

Sucking sand can help diminish the life of your wear rings. Sucking larger items can tear the ring up.

So take it easy in shallow water and do not beach your boat by driving up onto the sand.

Something else you can check for is to be sure that your Venturi is completely bolted on. I took one of my ski's out this weekend and experienced the same thing. RPM's would hit 7000 and it took forever to plain out. Once it plained out it would only go 10MPH at 5200 RPM. I also noticed that the steering was extremely stiff turning it to the right and slighty hard to turn left. When floating in the water the steering was extremely easy like it should be. I couldn't find anything while in the water. So, I putted back to the ramp and put it back on the trailor. When I was strapping it down I noticed that the steering nozzle assembly was extremely loose and wobbling weird. After an inspection I noticed that I was missing the bottom 2 bolts on the Venturi and the upper right bolt was loose. I'm hoping now that I have purchased two bolts and locktite and replaced the missing bolts that this will solve my power, plaining out, and steering issue! Everyting else looks to be fine.
