Netural Switch Problem

My 1996 speedster beeps twice when I install the lanyard (registering that it reads the lanyard) but will not give me the one beep I need to register that it is in nuetral...I tried to reconnect all wires between gear shifter and electronic module in engine compartment to no avail. I tried to manually connect the wires and by-pass the switch on the gear shifter, also with no success. I get 4 short beeps each time I try to start the engine (which it only says in the manual to put it in nuetral...which I've done hundreds of times). I also tried to manually start the engines by connecting the positive and negative connections in the electronic module with a srew driver, the engine turns-over but will not start (no power to the spark plug)..Is there a way to override the kill switch so that I can start the engine without having to buy a new electronic module? if not, about how much can I expect an electronic module to cost...please help, it's 105 degrees in Texas today and we can't use the boat.

When you connect the lanyard and you get 2 beeps it won't start? Have you tried the advanced diagnostic mode? Pushed the start switch 5 times with the lanyard off, and count the beeps. If you get 2 beeps is should start, or at least turn over.

have you checked to see if its stuck closed?...put lever in reverse, then install key, proceed to neutral, or... lever in forward, then..etc. Disconnect the battery, let sit, then reattach...

have you ohmed out the actual switch to see if it works? if switch says boat is in neutral, but mpem says different, you got a problem...i didn't know mpem disabled spark with neutral switch. btw. this is the pwc section. most people here never had to fight shifters. re-post this in the sport boats section, and you are talking to the boat people.

Thank you for the advice on making the request in the sports boat section...btw, the problem is that I have the boat shifter in nuetral but the lanyard gives me 4 shorts beeps which says the boat is not in neutral and will not start.

that's correct...I put the lanyard in and get two beeps but then when I press the start buttons I get 4 short beeps (which the manual says is because the boat is not in nuetral) and the boat will not start.

I'll try the other method you recommend with the advanced diagnostic mode today.

Thank you all for your help.

Check the switch in the control handle It is probably just sticking. There are 2 wires going to the switch and a small button on top of the switch that is spring loaded by the switch. I would remove it and spray it down good with PB blaster. If the switch sticks, it will do as you described. On my 1997 challenger, I left the shifter in reverse or forward to prevent it from sticking in the down position. Put it in netural when ready to use it, it cured the problem.

I took off the neutral switch in the gear shifter, cleaned it and had it tested at the jet ski shop (although its a speedster boat). They said the switch worked just fine. They tried to start the engine by using a screw driver to connect the two posts in the electronic module compartment and the engine turned-over but would not start. They said they thought it was because the engine was reading that it was not in nuetral and the "kill switch" was not allowing the engine to turnover. They said they thought I needed to take it to the dealer.
