Nothing wrong with using carb cleaner on a gas tank...

So I got the tank out and cleaned it. Surprisingly after 11 years there was still about a quart of fuel in the tank, I thought it would have all evaporated and be geled up. It smelled old and sweet kind of. I dumped it out and cleaned the tank out with carb cleaner and got it back in the ski.
Now I read somewhere on here but I can't seem to find the post anymore about running the pump submerged in a bucked of 50/50 fuel and mineral spirits to clean it out. Supposedly a bunch of junk should come out
Now my question is how do I run the pump? Just hook it straight up to 12v?
