a guy gave me a 92 seadoo xp 580 its ben parked about 6 years buy he said it ran fine when it was put away! the carbs and everything were completly gummed up so i pulled the motor and cleaned everything, i got it all back togeather and went to turn it over and the motor doest wanna turn over with the spark plugs in it! with out its fine! so i put a comprestion tester on it and on the forward cylender its showing about 150-155 but on the rear cylender the compresion just keeps going up and up untill the motor wont turn over any more around 210-220 psi!!!! im guessing this has something to do with the rotary valve maybe?!?!?! i know when i put it back on i went by the service manuels set up! did i get it wrong or is there something else that could cause this!!!! anybody with some thoughts please let me know! thanks!

it sounds like you have 2 problems to me...u have a either a weak starter and or battery and u have a bad compression guage...no working compression gusge will just keep going like that unless it is faulty

The battery is new it's 100% and the comp gauge is not defective, iv tryed it on other things, with the gauge on it and turn the motor over the cylinder pressure continues to climb almost like the exhaust is plugged but it's not! Until finally the pressure reaches around 220 and the battery can no longer turn the motor over, you can hear it happening as the pressure builds

How does it turn over without the plugs? Is there oil shooting out the spark plug holes? After sitting that long I wonder if the crankcase is full of oil?

Ding ding ding...oil in the cases. Very normal on old motors that sit. Pump out as much as you can, get it to fire and blow it out, then test.

When I first turned it over some oil did come out the spark plug hole!!!! Is there not Sapose to be oil in the crank case?

not enough to hydrolock piston or cause to increase compression numbers.

Do what minnetonka said.
Take plugs out. Turn it over to get oil out of cylinder. Then try to fire it.

Also, I know you said battery good but I can tell you it doesn't matter.
Take battery to get load tested at auto parts store to be sure.

Not sure if this maters on this engine but, when you say you cleaned everything up and put it all back together. Did you completely disassemble the engine rotary valve cover, rotary valve, how far did you disassemble the motor? And did you use the dial gauge to put the rotary valve back?

Yes I had the rotors valve off and I used a dial gauge not the best one but I'm fairly confident I got it right, and all electrical is good, the reson the motor stops turning over is because the pressure in the rear cylinder climbs to 220 and the stator can't turn it over anymore

Try disconnecting the exhaust pipe from the motor and see its it does the same thing. Maybe the exhaust manifold is clogged on that cylinder?

With the plugs out crank the motor over and keep doing it until no oil spits out of the plug hole. It may take quite a few minutes. Put the plugs back in, and try to start it. If it starts, lots of oil will be pissing out the exhaust

Good luck

Hold the throttle wide open and crank and crank and crank.

As others have suggested, it sounds like an oil leak. remove the spark plugs and crank it as Minnetonka has said. BUT DO NOT crank it for than 4-8 seconds at a time then stop and let the starter COOL off for ONE MINUTE than crank again. keep doing this until all oil is out, then start it. Run it on the hose for a minute or so (NO MORE Than that), or best, is to run it on the lake, but since you are in NY that might be tough to do at this time.

If it starts and runs and you want to wait until Spring to test run it again I would clamp the oil line going into the motor to prevent oil leaking in the cylinders over the Winter. This happens quite often. You may have a bad seal. the longer it sits the more oil seeps in the motor, that's why you clamp it shut or remove the line totally, but then you will have to bleed it again in the Spring.

LOL well yes you are working that starter, but 4-8 seconds? Im a 2-4 minute kind of guy....lol

You could tip the motor/machine and pour it out.

Before you sink any money into it, get it running and get all the oil out. Then let it sit a month and see if it will start or not. Many leak but not enough to matter (other then the environment) If its enough to not turn over, the engine is gonna need help.

Thanks for all the input guys! I'm heading out to the shop now to give it a try ill report back with what I find out

Like others have mentioned above, I would scrap the compression test until you've run it for a while. if the rings are worn, it will not show with them oiled up. that oil needs to be burned away first, & thats going to take a while. Something else that wasn't mentioned, I would pull your compression tester fittings apart. No doubt oil was forced into your gauge hoses.

So I let it turn over to blow any oil that was in there out, left it and came back then to see if I could get anymore and I dint but the motor still won't turn over with spark plugs in it, I swapped battery's just to be 100% and it made no change?!!
