I have a 95 SPX with a NO-START situation. It cranks but won't turn over. The actual cranking itself is a big clue to what the problem is. When I crank it the crank doesn't sound nearly normal. You know how a normal crank sounds IE...."Crrank..Crrank..Crrank..START?" Well now there is no space between the cranks. It just goes..."CrrrRRRrrrRRRrrrRRRrrrRRRrrrRRR" Endlessly with no start. Does anybody know what it could be? Not a fuel issue. Also, the actual cranking sound is weird. Instead of that winding-up, "WHIIRRRRING" sound, it more of a buzzing combined with the whirring....not normal at all.

thanks for your replies. The starter is almost new. Yes, the motor is turning but making a definitely "not normal" noise when turning over. I'll pull the plugs tomorrow and try starting it. If it matters, I did overfill the oil accidentally to the point of overflowing (rookie move, i know) ...but i have started it successfully several times between then and now. Could overfilling the oil cause a problem that would come on gradually and have my current symptoms?? If the Bendix is stuck would the starter still turn? Can I tap the starter with a mallet to free the Bendix?

Starter drive stuck on starter motor shaft?
Pull the starter, make sure the Bendix is free, lube the shaft

Is the starter even turning the engine?
Pull the plugs and see if the pistons are moving?

This is the sound I get when pressing start button (file attached)

I recorded the sound and tried to upload it here, but this platform won't accept a tiny simple audio file. I'm now getting basically a starter-like-like loud BUZZING noise when i press the start button.

It's now basically just a loud BUZZING/CRANKING noise when i try to start it. I can't tell if the noise is coming from the starter, the crankcase or both. It also seems to be pulling way more cranking amps than usual when trying to start.

May have fixed it by now. But I’ll throw out for you to pull the injectors and try to crank inferring possible hydro-lock from ingested water…🤷🏻‍♂️
