Need advice on 2000 GTX carb 951 +NEW pics added of engine and ski

OK, so the head is off. No way in heck this was ever rebuilt. Standard pistons and no hash marks. Also light scuffing in cyls. Head is dirty and pistons have mild carbon. Must have been running on the lean side for 225hrs.

Guessing the small amount of pink antifreeze was from pulling the head off.

Im not knowledgeable on this type of stuff, I can help as much as I can but I’ve literally only had about 4 - 2 stroke engines apart in my lifetime and none of those were 951’s. Piston crowns look overly clean to me, not sure what thats from? Maybe cooling water got into the combustion chamber, maybe running lean?
The mating surface between the cylinders and crankcase looks rusty in areas inside the gasket sealing band? Is it? I never thought to mention it but it would have been a good idea to pressure test the cooling system and the crankcase before disassembly.

What tool do I need to order to get the bottom muffler bolt off? Any other special tools I need to order?
They make a special wrench for it but I just remove the carbs and then you have access to it with a regular wrench.

Thats a clean GTX, definitely rebuild it yourself so you know its done right. If the scoring on the cylinder wall does not catch your fingernail too much then you can bore .25 over and be good. If the scoring is easy to feel then I would go .5 over to make sure its fully cleaned up. Dont forget to trim RAVE valves if you go .5 over. Follow the service manual on the rebuild except skip the loctite 518 on the cases and use a good quality sealant IMO (i like threebond but theres multiple good brands).

OK, thanks. I will pull the head tomorrow. That should point me in the right direction as to what needs doing. Will post back tomorrow with pics of what I found.

Can the jug be removed and reinstalled with the motor in the ski? If I decide to do that.
You can definitely remove them, but installing the cylinders is absolutely out of the question—even on a workbench, it’s no easy feat to guide the pistons and rings into the cylinders!

You will need a 15 mm open-end wrench; however, you must first remove the carburetors from the engine to access this nut. The muffler is attached to the exhaust manifold with three bolts and a single nut located underneath.

For pulling the motor, can I unbolt it and slide it forwards to drop driveshaft or do I need to pull the pump?
Can I pull the motor with the pipe installed or do I need to remove that too?

Any good videos on pulling a 2000 951 motor from a GTX?
Do I need to motor/shaft/pump alignment tool to put it back in when rebuilt?
