Need advice 2013 seadoo gti 155 se

I'm hoping someone may have an idea. After using my gti 155 se for about 2 hrs last weekend, I removed the seat just to take a look, and there was about 5 gal. of water in it. Also there is a lot of black soot inside the engine compartment. I own 2 of these, and the other one is dry and clean. Anybody got any ideas on what may be leaking?
Don't these doo's have a self bailing system? If so what could be wrong with mine? Thanks in advance for any advice.
 
If the water is clear, it is seawater or water from the lake.
If it is green it is coolant but if this is the case than your expansion tank is empty.
The black sooth 99% sure is your carbon ring, this would explain the water in the hull.
Yes, it is a self bailing system but works as an ejector, only when the engine is running and in the water.
 
You have an exhaust leak. The exhaust is cooled by the lake water and mixes with the exhaust. The water is from the leak. The soot is exhaust fumes that mixes with the water. Check your clamps on your entire exhaust system and then run it on the trailer at the ramp. Typically the exhaust leaks are easy to find.

They do have a self bailing system which is why you only had 5 gallons of water instead of it sinking.

Thanks for responding, Rikky001 you were 100% correct. The carbon ring is the culprit, now to order parts and start tearing it down.
 
If your carbon ring failed with that much damage, and it's not from running out of the water for extended periods, make sure you check your engine alignment/ motor mounts. Even a slightly misaligned prop shaft can cause excessive wear on the carbon ring...

Thanks Rich_r31 for the good information, Parts are ordered. I have not tore it apart yet, but I will check mounts and shaft alignment.
 
Hi again onawing2,

I believe you might want to try to polish the floating ring's mating surface! I have read that in other threads and that seemed to fix the problem! My bet would be to start with a 400 grit sandpaper and up a few notches until you've reached at least 1000 grit and a good even surface finish.

Trying to polish a carbon seal, the part is 50 usd...
If you fail with your polishing you can pull shaft, etc.... at least one hour lost.
I suggest to spend the money on a new one and if you really like trying to polish you can do it with the old one which came out and keep it as a spare if it can be saved. Just get a new floating ring, carbon seal and don't forget the 2 O rings so you are sure there will be no issues (if confirmed your alignment is perfect)
 
Sorry about the confusion, but I was referring specifically to the floating ring, which is the stainless steel part. Still a good idea to try on the old one for sure!
 
Thanks for all the advice. I replaced the carbon ring, steel sleeve with new o rings and a clip. I also checked the shaft alignment which was very good and the motor mounts are in excellent shape. Going to put it in the water today to try it out.

Yes got to drop it in the water last Saturday, All is good, no leaks, no carbon tracks, and no water in the bilge.
The wife and I were out on the river for 3 hours. Had a ton of fun.
