Ok i have a 94 XP 657x, i purchased it not running, has new motor ran good for one year then something happen to the timing according to the previous owner. so i began working and checking everything. 130psi compression, good plugs good fuel. finally got it to run by turning the flywheel 90 degrees and removing the woodruff key. but my battery is not charging so i ordered new stator and charging coil. same results and i even tried putting the flywheel in correctly. but the jet ski will only run with the flywheel turned 90 degrees and it wont charge the battery. please help i am completely depleted here, out of ideas and am losing hope in everything.

The mid 90's 587, 657X, 720 are the same 118. The 657 engine is the different
flywheel. It uses are 5 wire stator. You should have a 4 wire. You would see the
keyway is in a different loaction if you have them side by side comparison. Like
Chester said, maybe the OP did not realize he installed the wrong one. As the not
charging, the rectifier may be bad. remove the red wire and it will run dc off the
battery, just to get it running to do more testing. removeing that wire as least you
not sending AC to mpem. If it ran before and no work on it, disreguard the above.
