I need to purchase a MPEM for my 96 ski...do I need to get a new lanyard too or will it come with it? Also...then do I need to have it programmed?

We were told by the mechanic that an MPEM might fix our problem...When it first starts it idles really rough. Then for the next 5-6 minutes it bogs down really back and won't go! The carbs have been gone through, the spark plugs changed and the gap is good, I changed the fuel lines and cleaned the filter, checked the RAVE valve...Tried everything. The dealer had it for a month and couldn't fix it...but they did say they think its electrical...said they didn't want to "throw parts at it" so thought I would give this a shot.

well those symptoms don't suggest a bad mpem or even electrical, Do you know what the compression is? it sounds like it is ethier starving for fuel or plugs fowling, I would try switching it to your reserve tank, the fuel selector switch get mucked up after awhile. If that doesn't work then I would check the sparkplugs and report what color they are , wet, dry, black.....another possiblilty is you have oil in the crank from a leaky seal and fowling your plugs. Keep us posted we will get you back out hopefully lol

This is what really pisses me off about the dealerships! it MIGHT be an MPEM?? WTF? If that's the case, why don't they grab a good MPEM and try it out while servicing it? If it runs, then they can charge you for a new MPEM...if not, they continue troubleshooting! It's all about the Benjamin's to them!

Sorry to not be of any help...I am new to the jet-ski world myself. BUT, I do feel better! :)
