MPEM or something else??

Hey all,
Just picked up a 1997 GTI the guy had little to offer on the whys but I am curious, I took the ski too my Seadoo dealer hooked up a battery and tried to program a DESS key but when I put a new battery on it and put the DESS key nothing. No beeps, nothing. Just curious is there any testing I can do to check weather or not the MPEM is toast or if it is somthing simpler??

1) Did the dealer get a key programmed?
2) Open the gray box, and check all the fuses.
3) Check for corroded wire connections.
4) In almost every late 90's and earlier seadoo I've played with, the buzzer was bad. So just because you didn't hear anything... doesn't mean that it's not coming to life. (did the gauges turn on?)

Answers to the following,

1 The techs at the Seadoo place were not my usual guys I have a guy I always use and he was off so I wasn't really going to let these guys, doing it for the first time experiment on this ski.
2. All fuses checked!!
3. Wiring looks great I checked all the wires in the ski, as state though and this actually applies to question 4, the wire(s) to the gauges have been chopped becuase the hood is destroyed. I can hooked them back up and see if they the gauges work. With that said if the gauges do repsond, the I replace the buzzer and then start back from square one, would that be best??

Well... if the wires were cut while the power was on... that could be bad.

BUT... before you condemn the MPEM... see if your regular tech can program a new key. That will tell you everything.

Tried rewiring the gauges and I got no sound, no gauges, but when I put a screw driver across the starter solenoid it did turn it but obvious no start. I am almost convinced it is the MPEM everything else seem to work fine.

Put the new MPEM in I got nothing, no gauges, no beep. So I started pulling items off the ski. Found out the buzzer was toast, so no surprise on the lack of beep. But I ended up pulling the motor and the flywheel cover had a sheered bolt, which in turn seems to have either rusted or destroyed the stator with water damage. Would no stator cause the entire system not to work??

Probably not since the stator is isolated from the system via the regulator... and the CDI.

If you put in a new MPEM... then you have me stumped. All you can do is check EVERY wire in the system, until you find the open connections.
