Hey Guys,

So im still learning here, so please dont shoot me for asking this... But i see a lot off different computer parts for the skis that have the dess system, a lot of people are selling the ecu grey box with the dess keys, but doesnt the dess keys work off a different system, the ignition module I thought and they are not inside the grey box. Wont that key not work on there ski unless they get it programmed to the dess module? Im trying to understand it but they look like different computers. I think the cdi and starter relay are in the grey box while the dess module is in another area, I think on my 97' gts, its right under the handle bars inside the hull. Wouldnt the dess key need to be sold with that system and not the Mpem grey box? Thanks for any help you can give :-)

DESS key goes with and is coded to MPEM

On most older 2 stroke carb skis MPEM is in that gray electrical box.

Most if not all 657 and 717cc skis have MPEM, CDI, starter relay, and rectifier all housed in gray electrical box.

951 skis have external sealed MPEM that look more similar to an automotive ECM and you can see them mounted in ski, not in a gray electrical box.

Then on 4 strokes....the fuse panel is called the MPEM, the engine controller is called the ECU. The goofy thing though is the DESS key is programmed to the ECU on a 4 stroke and not the MPEM.
