MPEM Differences

Greatings everyone! I just replaced my MPEM (2002 GTX) since the fwd AMP connector socket had a loose connection with the Motherboard. I would wiggle the connector with the key on the DESS post and the ski would intermittently power up. I swapped MPEMs between the SKIs, and the problem followed the MPEM.

I found a used MPEM on Ebay with the same part number, but it came out of an '05 ski. I just installed it, and the ski fired right up. My question is, why did Sea-Doo go from a simple 2 beeps with the key on the post to 2 beeps and then another 4 rapid beeps? I pulled down the '05 manual, and it says the 4 rapid beeps is to let you know you left your key on the post and that the 2 beeps tells you (1) the lanyard signal is working, (2) the ECU recognizes the lanyard, and (3) there is good contact with the DESS post. On the '02 ski, you hear 2 beeps for all of those functions. Here's the section from the '02 manual.

Here is the difference in the '05 manual. It was also curious both MPEMs have the same part number.

They did it because people would leave the key on and it will drain the battery. The 4 beeps are so annoying that you are forced to take the key off right away.

Thanks Ski-Doo! At first I though I had some strange fault, so I looked it up. I was glad to hear that this was normal!

Now for the new questions. In the engine management section of the manual, it states to transfer the "data" from the old MPEM to the new MPEM. What data are they talking about? Do you have to have B.U.D.S. for this or will my CanDoo work?

I only have buds but pretty sure candoo will do it as well. Maybe seadood will chime in and explain it. There isn't much data for the older 4tecs.
