Motor break in - too much oil added to gas ?

I have a 2002 seadoo rxdi that was just rebuilt.

It had a little less than half a tank of fuel from last year. I topped up the oil then dumped about a quart (900mL) of injection oil into the half tank and topped it up with about $30 worth of premium fuel so the ratio was a little higher during break in...
It idled fine on a trailer with a hose running to it but I took it out today for the first time to break in the motor.
low rpms seem ok but as soon as I steadily give it throttle but not full throttle, it bogs out and dies.
It will start right up again fine and idle but as soon as I hold the throttle down about 50% or more it eventually bogs out. It doesn't sputter or choke but it just seems to almost run out of fuel to the rail.

I get it back and put it on the trailer but in the water so water is pumping out the front hose and then I get a "HI TEMP" warning on the gauge....

If water is being pumped out the front does that mean I'm far enough into the water to cool the ski ? If I can touch the cylinder wall no problem it can't really be too hot can it ?

I'm just wondering if maybe I put too much oil into the fuel and now it's running like shiiiit.. how much is too much ? how delicate is the ratio of oil / fuel ?
 
I am running 2 qts of oil in my 27 gallon tank, and it is running fine. So I doubt it is your premix oil that is causing that problem.
 
so you're running both a premix and injection at the same time with 2 quarts ?

what kind of ration is that ? and is your ski fuel injected ? what kind of ski is that ?
 
Premixing at 55:1 and still running the injection. Not sure what the final ratio is, but it is NOT smoking, which has me thinking that the injection system is running too little oil.

55:1 on my 97 Challenger is 2 qts in a full tank. This is a carbureted 787 engine.

I want to run as much of a tank of gas off as possible and then top off the fuel tank, write down the amount of gas added, then top off the oil tank measuring how much was used, then calculating what "average" ratio my oil:fuel consumption is on the injection system.

I may just richen up the injection at the pump if it is too low. Do the entire procedure again until I get a decent average of around 35:1 or so on the injection system.

Or, more likely, just keep adding 2 qts to each tank. Then if the injection system ever fails, I will still be running the 55:1 as I limp home.
 
turns out the boring machine was cutting my cylinder a few thou smaller at the bottom of the cylinder... not to worry, the guy who did it picked up the boat and fixed it at his cost... Total stand up guy...
 
you shouldn't ever run pre-mix on a DI, not even for break in, it doesn't work well with the injection system.
 
I am only pre-mixing for the first tank of the season. When I verify that the engine is burning a sufficient amount of oil from the DI tank, then I will stop premixing.

If I find the that DI is not using sufficient oil, then i will keep premixing.

I would rather swap out spark plugs than engines. And a little smoke doesn't bother me. I have had issues with neither on this first tank, so far.

I think he means the fuel injection (DI) Not oil injection.
 
OH, Got it. Direct Injection fuel injection, not oil injection. Thanks for clearing that up for me.:cheers:
 
yah I went through a tank without issue... not sure what the big deal is.. I only added about half a quart to the whole tank...

like he said... "easier to change fuel parts vs motors"
 
Well, the big deal is the oil will stick/collect on certain parts like it is supposed to, but when it sticks in your fuel pump and injectors and clogs them up you will lean it out and it's gonna run really good for about 20 minutes and then boom, your back to replacing your engine. Call an experienced DI specialist(like PPG) and ask them their opinion.
