Manifold gasket

Time for some much needed maintenance. I jb welded my pipe so I could get my last weekend of riding in. Now I'm taking pipe out to get welded up. What should I put on the gasket between pipe and manifold? I just put new gaskets on all the way down to the base gasket. I used loctite 518 on all of them but I read somewhere not to use it on the exhaust gasket. What should I be using instead? Also is there a gasket I need to buy that goes under the metal clamp at the bottom end of pipe?

All gaskets should go on dry with no sealant. Not sure where you read to use 518 on the gaskets?

The only pipe gasket that gets sealant is if your pipe uses the copper ring and band clamp then it uses Permatex Ultra Copper RTV silicone.

I bought a top end gasket kit and it came with 518. I just assumed it was to put on the gaskets.

Is that copper ring u mentioned reusable or do I need to search for a new one? It's a 787 btw

No, gaskets should go on dry.

Yes, you can reuse the copper ring.

that 518 is for the bottom of the cylinder jugs gasket

Actually the base gasket should be dry.
The 518 is just for the bolts and head o-rings per the manual.

Ok thx guys! I'll try it dry next time around. I imagine it's kinda tough keeping gasket in place and getting both jugs on when there's nothing keeping gasket in place.

Gravity will hold it on the cases.
