Maintenance interval for a new ski..10hrs, 25hrs or 50hrs.

Folks,

I am relatively new to PWC but have had boats on and off for years. I bought new 2014 year model RXP-X and GTX skis about a month ago. I have been reading on the boards here and there is a lot of conflicting information regarding maintenance intervals. I have seen some threads that dealers are saying they need to be brought in at 10hrs and my dealer told me that it needs to be brought in at 25hrs. The manuals on both of these machines say the first maintenance should be done at one year or 50hrs.

I realize that dealers are going to want to get you in for service as they make good money on this. My dealer quoted me a price of ~$375 for the first service. Seems high for what the manual says needs to be done. So, who knows best, the dealer or the manufacturer?

We have them both broken in with about 10 hours on them. Should I follow the dealer or the manufacturers recommendation?

Old school mentality is 10 hrs. Reason being is, within the first 10 hours all of the metal parts will be "mating up" and produce the highest amount of metal wear as compared to the next several hundreds hours short of some sort of a failure.

50 is the norm for oil regardless of any other factor. I took mine in at 10 and based on what I had read I thought they were going to check head torque and clamps and pretty much do a thorough once over. That is not the case. The change the oil and filter and make sure there is no obvious issues.

So in my opinion, I would let them change the oil around the 10 hour mark and do the once over myself. NO ONE will care more about your machines than you,,,,

Thanks for the reply. That is kind of what I was thinking, 50 hours seemed like to little to long for the first oil change. How hard is it to change the oil and filter on these machines? I am pretty mechanically inclined and I do pretty much do all of the maintenance on my cars. I already have the tools necessary to do this without to much trouble. I know the best way to get the oil out is to suck it out and I have a nice vacuum system that I use on my cars that will work just fine on these. Am I missing something by not letting the dealer do this?

I do agree with you that I will care more about my machines than anyone else and I am pretty anal when it comes to maintenance. I think I can take care of the first change and then take it to the dealer for the first scheduled change and checkup when it hits 50 hours or a year. does that sound reasonable?

Another thing I noticed is that with my RXP the manual say the supercharger clutch needs to be replaced at 200 hrs. I assume that is what most folks call a supercharger rebuild. But, 200 hrs is double the 100 hrs I have been reading about. I would rather be safe than sorry so will probably do this closer to 100 hrs versus the 200 hrs. Any thought or comments on this?
