I had brought my 1997 Sea-Doo gsi to a shop for problems with it bogging down at half throttle and up. I was told that the main jet was clogged and that it wasn't worth the time and money to fix. Would this be true or does it sound like a don't want to do it job?

It sounds like they don't want the job. If it was actually a plugged main jet they would have had to pull the carb to check it and could have ceaned it in 5 seconds if they had the carbs apart.

BTW: I have never once seen a seadoo with a plugged main jet.

It is probably your fuel system and carbs in need of a rebuild. Probably about $200 in parts if you do the work yourself.

I have. But the carbs were so rotten at that point... I didn't recommend rebuilding them. I've seen a bunch of plugged bypass ports.

But you are right... the shop is just too busy to take the job. If you go to them in the middle of winter... they will jump all over it. But then again... here's the shop's thoughts...........

A proper rebuild will have +$100 in parts. If you are bring them the ski... and they have to remove the carbs... they will charge you at least 4 hr's labor. SO... it's going to be $500 to $600 when it's said and done. BUT... if there are other problems... like leaks in the fuel system... leaky crank seals... low compression... warn rotary valve... so on... then after they are done, it may not run right anyway, and you will be mad.

Basically... these old skis aren't really worth a shop's time since they aren't worth what the repare will cost in the end. SO... fix it yourself. Pop the carbs off, and give them a good cleaning. I can't tell you how many carbs I "Rebuilt" in my shop and didn't put a single new part into them. Just a cleaning.
