Love hate relationship with my boat

Since I bought our 1997 Seadoo Challenger 1800 a few months ago, I have been going through a love hate relationship with it. When we bought a jet boat we were ignorant of the oil and fuel consumption...it made us so mad we actually put the boat up for sale immediately to get rid of it and find ourselves an economical prop boat. Then yesterday we took a large group up to the lake and had so much fun, we decided to take it off the market, we just decided we will use the boat less than we thought we would, but we will have a great time when we do use it. This boat just does things a prop boat can't do...(sliding turns, jumping waves etc...). Has anyone else felt bi-polar about owning one of these boats? I haven't come across any boats that are as sleek, easy to clean and comfortable as these boats either...so it is really difficult to know what to do.

I don't think a prop boat would do any better in the fuel/oil consumption department. Unless you went to a 4-stroke, which you could do with a newer Seadoo. Just figure out the RPM that does the best and try to run it near there, not WFO.

I feel your pain. I love my boat but it can get expensive quick. I burned up 150 worth of fuel and gas in about 3 hours yesterday. Days like that suck. Usually I try to spend a lot of time just hanging out in the water and listening to music. That makes the gas last a lot longer.
