I have a 2000 seadoo gti and my pump is making a very loud noise at high rpms and cavitates sometimes I opened the pump and the impeller is perfect with no nics and I notice that my wear ring has a half inch gap from the bottom af pump to where the ring meets the pump and I spun the impeller and it felt fine so do you guys think it's the wear ring

The wearing should be very close and sometimes they touch and the impeller sometimes cuts it's way in.

What do you mean exactly by “opened the pump”.? Did you remove the cone and change the oil? Was pusher, bearings and seal all ok?

There shouldn’t be a gap between the wear ring and the pump where they come together.

Post pics and video of the sound if you can.

Okay yes I took off nose cone and it looked good and I changed the oil in it and I will post a picture this weekend thx guys.

Air and/or turbulence in the intake will cause some vibration and unusual noises. It’s hard to say without feeling or seeing/hearing it.

To the best of my understanding, there shouldn't be "gaps" between the wear ring and the pump housing.....you want a continuous smooth tunnel for the water to pass through. The clearance between the impeller blades to the wear ring are miniscule as well...so any gappage in the water tunnel, especially at high rpms will certainly create a strange racket back down in there.

The question is...how did the wear ring get displaced???? Normally its really wedged in there tight and should seat/bottom out into the pump housing and be held in there once everything is bolted back together.

And this brings a thought. Are you sure the pump is torqued in place well?

Ok I'm gonna replace the wear ring and do a pump rebuild and see if that fixes the issue thx for all the help guys I'll let you know if it fixes it

That black glue looking thing is the actual wear ring the clearish stuff is what's inside of the wearing and i think it just all got chipped away when I sucked something up

Installed new oem wear ring, it is in very snug and spins freely without any scraping cant wait to see if it fixes it!
