We just got back from the lake where the 2000 GTX RFI decided to give us a new problem. It started out with my son pulling me on the tube. no problems, good power & speed. then we switch places. As I went to power to plane the ski out, there was none. the best I could get was 10 mph with any throttle setting. My daughter, who was riding as watcher, said there was a lot of white smoke (synthetic oil burning?). No matter what I tried, there was no power. Another sea doo owner helped limp back to the ramp. My son drove our doo back in, all the time, it was dogging. then all the sudden, for about 20 seconds, it took off. then back to dogging.
Now my personal thoughts are a fuel system clog, but I need your help. i checked the jet pump intake, it was clear. Oh, and the info center display is still dead (ever since it got water in it the last time it got flipped).

Ok. I have so far checked all the lines from the crank case to the rave valves, and found them clean. Then I took out the aft rave valve and again found it clean. Now the dilema, the forward valve on the GTX RFI's 787 engine seems to be un removable without removing the the exhaust manifold. which is a shame because it is covered in oily thick sticky gunk. Please tell me it will come out without pulling the exhaust.

I havnt yet checked the check valve, but that is on my to do list. had to go to Sears to get some metric hex sockets. but i got the set for 69 cents!!! (upgraded my old Sears card & saved some bucks. hehehe) so this evening once the temp drops a bit i can take loose the manifold.

On my gsx with the 787 i can take the rave apart and get the valve to slide out without taling the manifold off. Have you tried to pop the top off and disassemble it?

As an aircraft inspector & mechanic, I have had plenty of reason & opportunity to give new names (none of them nice) to engineers who obviously hang 1 high maintenance part from the ceiling and then build around it. I will not repeat the ones I came up with yesterday.

1st thing i tried was removing the cap, which gained me about another 3/4 inch. But it is so gunked up that I am going to do this the right way. BTW, the problem is compounded by the 97deg temps we are having here in Ks.

Finally got the forward Rave valve out! and I took a few pics once i figure out how to post them to this sight. The forward valve was coated in sludge and baked on carbon so I did a complete tear down, clean & lube. Amaizing how much of the sludge was inside the diaphragm, almost pluging the breather tube port. And the Exhaust manifold DOES have to be moved out of the way. That is a major pain. 8 bolts into the block itself plus the support bolts on the duct downstream. I realy am betting on your theory of incomplete servicing as being true. That or there are major design problems in the engine, which I have a hard time believing.

rave trick

Here's the trick to removing the back rave valve....after taking the cap off and removing the spring, take a wrench or socket and unscrew the bellows cap from the guillitine. This will allow you to remove the bellows and then the guillitine. Clean and then re-install in reverse order. Make SURE to place the guillitine back with the correct side up or suffer the conscequences:ack:
