Loss of power

Myself and some friends of mine just purchased some used jet skies. We're both first time owners. Mine ran great. There's, 1996 seadoo gtx, ran fine for about the first 30 minutes but after that it lost some of its top end power. Only other issue is that it was kinda hard for them to start and kept running after killing the engine each time. It did that even before they noticed the loss of top end power. Once it cranked and "warmed up" they could idle without any problems with the motor going dead. Any suggestions of what might be going on? Spark plugs?

One more thing, it used a lot of gas. We were only out about an hour and it used almost a half a tank of gas. That don't sound normal.

They burn a lot of gas. So... if you were holding the throttle open most of that time... then yes, that sound about right.

You can check the sparkplugs... but since the skis are older... checking the compression would tell you more about the engine. Also... if you have gray fuel lines... they all need replaced, and the fuel system cleaned out.
