Looked a Seadoo today with a problem

I looked at a 1998 speedster today which was in excellent condition. The man described to me that he paid 4200 for it and had the carbs cleaned, new spark plugs, and a new battery at a costs of 600. He continued to explain that he has had it out the 4 times over the last month and that the last time he encountered a problem. Here it is:

"I had ridden the boat for about two hours and going about 50 mph when all of a sudden both motors just cut off. I had power and the motors would turn over but wouldn't start. It seemed like the battery didn't have a full charge and was struggling. Then all of a sudden I saw smoke pouring out of the fusebox compartment."

I think I can get this boat at a steal, but I would like to know what the possible problems are? And information do you need to know to give me some idea?

go check out the fuse box....if the 5amp fuses are smoked, then a member (Allthingscustom), can fix "that" problem. If other fuses, then check the sticker on boat/compartment, as to what they're for...could be, bad ground wires/cables...corrosion..etc, that caused it.

I was thinking it could have been those 5 amp fuses. How expensive is the fix that allthingscustoms knows of? Is there a possibility that the MPEM is burned up?

if the 5amp is toat, then it should not be anything else, wrong, considering the circuits' broke.

The charge, I dont know, his price, but, gotta be better than new.

I think he was is like $150 or less. A search on here should turn it up.

If the motors were still turning over, this is not something I can repair...

Sorry, research the cost of a new MPEM before you buy and use that to negotiate... They are almost impossible to find anymore.
