As I have said before that "special" wrench is crap. Sorry you got one. easiest way is to install the carbs or throttle body after the pipe is or or pull them before removing the pipe. With them out of the way the pipe is pretty easy.

Seadoo installed the top half of the hull after the engine was installed.
 
Wow sorry about your luck. I have removed at least 10 exhaust pipes with mine since I got it and have never had a problem. Maybe the stud was not screwed in far enough....

Thank you for the suggestion to pull the throttle bodies. That gave me access needed from below to remove the tuned pipe. Progress!
