I need help, brought my newly bought 1996 gti to a dealer for servicing and got my bike back but without the lanyard. Went back, and they gave me a new one but it did not work, it just beeps when I try to start it. They now tell me that it needs to be hook to their computier to be keyed, and yes they want to charge me 200.00 to do this. Can someone tell me if there is a way to do this without having to have the dealer touching my bike? Is there some procedure that I can do, or a program I can buy to do this?

If they lost they owe you another one
That's it.
It's their fault they have to program it.

+1, if they lost it, it's their replacement responsibility, no?

FWIW, my dealer charges $70 for new key/lanyard program through BUDS.

Sounds like you're dealing with a pirate.

Yeah I agree...If they lost it, why are they charging you. I have a local guy with the non BUDS DESS software they use on the older boats. He programs lanyards for 15 bucks.

:hurray:

How do you know which one you have??

I believe the BUDS system is used on all 4 stroke (non mercury) models. so that should be like 2004 and up.
