Keep going through wear rings

Hi, I bought a used 2001 GT and the wear ring was shot. I went through a company on ebay and bought a new one but found that the old one was really easy to remove because it didnt have to be cut out like my previous machines. The ring was snug but all that I had to do was pull it out by hand and then push the new one in by hand as well. The new ring didnt last the weekend so I bought one from my local dealer and again pulled the old one out by hand then put the new one in by hand. This wear ring only lasted the weekend again so I called a local fellow thats familiar with seadoos and he claims that some models will allow you to take the wear ring out easily espeacially those with the neopreme seal. After checking BRP there is no seal in the 2001 GT. My housing looks good but I really dont know if it could be warped but I doubt that it is. Is it possible that the BRP site could be listing the wrong wear ring for my machine. I did get a buddys housing with the brass fins but my machine wont even plane out with it on so I went back to my old housing.

Thought when installing some aftermarket wear rings they had two screws top and bottom of pump that held them in place. Nothing better than a factory oem wear ring and they are under 50$. They fit nice and snug. Is your buddys pump the correct size bronze pump for your ski. Just replaced my pump with a bronze and Solas combo the ring had to be tapped in and fit really snug.

He couldnt tell me what it came off because it was given to him, but it looks to be in good shape. I had no problem bolting it up to my machine.

Mine went in pretty easily too, but its not getting eaten so, is yours a one-way fit? Mine has a shoulder on one end that mates to the transom. How does the impeller look and is it the cause? Or, housings can get out of shape or weak. Does it feel sturdy or a little flexible or look like an egg? Does the drive shaft line up pretty true? And finally, how are your motor mounts? If one is loose or broken, the shifting motor from the rpm torque could be pushing the impeller into the wear ring.

How are your pump bearings. Feel any vibration riding it or is there any side to side play in the impeller shaft?

If you are destroying wear rings....

1) You are riding in polluted water. (sand, rock, and/or floating stuff)

2) Your pump bearings are shot. (there shouldn't be any measurable lateral movement)

3) The housing is so warn out (with the loose fit) that they are spinning, and contacting the impeller.

Solution:

1) Ride in cleaner water

2) Rebuild the pump.

3) glue the ring into the housing... or get a new pump housing.
