I went out today, installed both batteries after they had been on the charger for some time. The front battery worked fine when testing fan and bilge pump.
I tried starting left engine and just got a chattering or clicking. I tried starting the right engine and all I got was chattering or clicking as well. I was actually encouraged by the identical behavior. I am guessing that I need a new second battery. Seems unlikely that both solenoids and/or starters would go at the same time ;-)
Does it sound like I am on the right track? I had to walk away for today. Tomorrow morning I was thinking of just trying to jump the second battery.
The good news is that I fixed the problem with it no auto bilge ;-)
