So we don't muddy up the resto thread.

The casters on this one never breaks:lol:

NICE!
Since we're way off topic now.......how well do these slings work?

Have this hoist in my shopping cart right now at HF. Was gonna use it to put in/remove motors, but figured I could use it to move skis from the trailer to the stand.

looks like this guy had the same idea.

a HF hoist for a polaris is fine, not sure if I would use it on a doo.

Crap, did I say that out loud

I know I have posted bits of this before but here you go.

I have the 1100# to lift my kids bounce house (a full rental quality one) It weighs 190# and the winch does it no problem and rolls effortlessly. I lift it roughly 12' in the air and then slide it sideways to my mezzanine where I store it. I also have an 880# unit still new in the box that I was going to put perpendicular to this one so I could do a transfer stuff to my work bench while working on equipment for customers. As far as a ski goes, I'd assume it could do it, but you probably want to lag into a few joists, not just one. I bought a sliding door track and rollers from my local Tractor Supply then bolted it on every steel beam in my shop(metal building, not wood construction) then used the trolley wheels sold there too. It's the bomb. I have pulled sled engines with it, used it for my XP engine, my Speedster engine IIRC. Here's some pics and the supplies

I was going to use a 12'x6" and lag bolt it to every stud across that portion.....atleast twice per stud/joist. Then use the thickest pipe possible(that the hoist will bolt to) and use U style bolts and lag bolts to the 12x6. Those bolts would also go through the board into the stud. Then bolt the hoist to that pipe. Then inside the pipe put the next smaller diameter pipe in there for more support.

Personally I wouldn't trust my life on that bracket they supply, it's not heavy duty. If you look at my gray plates, they're 3/8" thick, I think the hanger they supply is like 1/8" maybe 3/16" thick and they use some real cheap china hardware with a low profile head and paper thin washers. However you do it make it bullet proof. If you have a harbor local wait for a sale, I paid way less than that, like sub $100 with tax. I want to say like $75-$80.

Nice! I have one semi local. It's 30 or so mins away from me. I need to get the stapler to do my seat cover, that's the only reason I was looking at it. That and I need to get my motor in.......can't do it by myself.

What about an engine hoist? Would that work for a ski?

Like this?

slightly more expensive, but I don't have to buy the other shat(mounting, etc).

Also you might want to look into their inside track club. I joined it when we bought a 12K# winch for our car trailer. The winch was $399, but if you joined for $20, they gave you a $20 coupon to use right then and the ITC price for the winch was immediately marked down to $299 for ITC members. So, you spent $20 to save $100, but got your $20 back on the spot. They might have a similar deal on the hoist. I couldn't check out fast enough, it felt like I just ripped them off. They usually mark the ITC price on the rack IF it's part of it that month, you can call and find out. If not wait to see if it goes on sale online then print that out and they will price match, then drop a 20% off coupon from any automotive mag. You can't use coupons with the ITC price.

I have a hoist as well, it's called me an my buddy leaning over the ski breaking my back and scraping my knees and busting my knuckles to get the motor out...

I remember seeing this on GH, still for sale actually for $400 ish in Florida

a nice stand with a winch and battery attached to slide those big pig ski's from trailer to stand.

whats nifty, is that it breaks down too.

297.jpg

i passed on the $425 price tag, but it certainly made me think that you could modify pretty much any stand to include a detachable bar with a manual winch on it to crank those big ski's over. Not sure how many of you have tried to move a GTX 2 stroke (or god forbid a 4tech) over to a stand, but its dam hard, you need a minimum of two people and 3 would be nice :)

I can do my xp by myself but its not a cake walk either, it takes all of about 15 seconds if you have a helper in the garage.

That's what I had to get it out, but would be nice not to have to find time to get him over to get the motor back in.

I have a manual winch on the wall that I use to get both skis off. Works great with a single trailer........not sure how it's gonna work with the double.

Nice looking but not for that price. I like the idea. Thanks Spim

since we were on the subject, i thought i'd show one that's in my garage.

much lower than other stands but its easier for me to slide my xp to a low stand than it is one that's the same height, and it still winches back on the trailer nicely. one of the nice features on this is that it is short enough to slide under the trailer. my ski lives on the trailer since it gets used so much, but when I know i'll have 2-3 weeks off from riding, it moves to the stand. (downside to this stand is that its worthless for working on the ski for more than 10 minutes, its so low it annoys you.

When this cart was made, my future BIL measure the height of the bunks on my trailer. So we can transfer them easily. We also have 3 other wood stands but those ones are a little too bulky, the one that was made from steel is not as wide and makes it easy to work on machines. We also are going to make some bins that will sit in between the bottom and the lip of the bin will sit across the top of the bottom frame. This way when we work on something we can put the parts directly under the machine so we dont lose anything.

He made it fairly cheap and I love it

I dont have any pictures of just the cart but you get the idea

I use a pull pall with a chain wrapped around a 2x4 on my ceiling to lift out engines lol. It holds me (177lbs) so an engine is even less.

I like that power winch on a track idea...

I built two wood dollies a few years ago i use for winter storage.

Ive never pulled a sea doo engine but im sure this would work. When I use to remove front forks on motorcycles id always just put it under a decent ladder and use rachet straps.

You all are making me feel strong (or stupid). I reach down and snatch those 787's out by myself every time. I put my feet in the foot wells facing backwards and lift with my legs. After I set it on the back of the ski I can balance it with one hand while I get off the ski and pivot around to bear hug it to the bench. Only problem is the RV oil leaking down my pant leg.

Matt, just make some plugs so you dont get any oil anywhere. Take some old oil lines cut them into 6-8 inch pieces. Then put a bolt that is the same diameter as the id of the line in one end then clamp the line over the bolt. Now just put the other end onto the nipple and clamp that down. Do that to all the oil nipples and now you wont have to worry about that oil. We also do it your way, good old manual labor. We place a piece of wood over the seat opening, lift the motor up, set it on the wood then move it from there.

We made a set of those plugs after getting oil everywhere, we finaly figured it out. Now all the oil ends up in the oil pans lol

lol.

actually the 787's are not that big of a deal, but the 951's can be a real pain, especially since its not usually just a lift it str8 out thing, but you have to twist and turn it out, its nice to have a 2nd pair of hands.

MC's are a little more narrow than a ski. Worked on my fair share of bikes before and seen that done as well. Saw a vid on youtube one time with some hilljacks that did something similar on a ski. lol I wouldn't recommend what they did.

Getting it out would work that way......getting it back in wouldn't work as well.

Even easier, Dorman Motormite 47397 Vacu-Tite Vacuum caps, they fit tight enough that you don't need a clamp. Available at most autoparts stores for less than $10. The also serve as a mask while painting or while bead blasting. Probably the same as the Moroso Kit from Oriley's for $7.50

Lol very true guess I shouldve been more clear the ladders that can go different shapes. Just set it up like monkey bars although very low to the ground. It amazes me watching people lift bikes from there termite infested rafters.

We bought that exact set up last summer just make sure your stand, trailer, etc. has enough clearance to slide the hoist in under it. If you keep an eye out for coupons in magazines you can get that hoist for less than half.
