Replaced the wear ring this weekend on my '96 GTX. I've got the pump ready to go back in, the question is what sealant to use for the face of the pump to the pump support.

Looked like a black sealant was used previously. The service manual for the GTX model doesn't show sealant?

What about the o-rings should they be replaced, they look to be in good condition?

Thank you

Hi,

I used Loctite Clear Silicone Sealant, about 2 years ago. Any quality silicone sealant should work fine.

I've seen posts that the pump "O" ring can reused, it's such a critical part I replace it when I change the pump oil. The small "O" rings, siphon for the bailers can be purchased at the hardware store, like .50 ea., the pump O is about 8.00 from a SeaDoo dealer.

Remove the sealant crap and use a neopren seal...The dealer has them, buy a couple...SeaDoo Neoprene Pump Seal 293200024

You can use the neoprene pump washer, however you are still going to need sealant around the bolt holes and around any protrusions into the hull, ie suction lines and pump intake to engine line.

I have found that the neoprene washer will deterioate before the wear ring wears out and cause cavitation, maybe I just don't replace the wear ring as often as other people. I replaced the wear ring after 13 seasons and the neoprene washer was completely desingntigrated.

Thank you for the replies.

I decided to go with Permatex Ultra Black which I purchased from a local autoparts store.

ick.......The bad thing is you have to clean it and reapply each time you pull the pump and that sucks. Some people may get lucky and never have to remove the pump again, but in the real world there's ropes, sticks, etc,etc that get stuck in there all the time.. :)
