2004 GTI service manual says to use synthetic grease on the cone for sealing the o-ring. Other posts say use loctite 518

518.
I 518 everything.

So BRP bought Evinrude in 01, along with it their stuff.. (FICHT, which becamse E-TEC) and there was a thing between OMC and permatex or OMC owned their own sealant or.. something.. I can get the specifics.
But that's why around 02-03 SEA DOO changed their sealant recommendations. Up until that point, SeaDoo used 518 on EVERYTHING. Regardless of what the manual stated.. 518 on the cases, bolts, O rings.. and they would have stuck with the 518 if not for the Evinrude/Johnson outboard deal.

Both actually, a little lithium (or synthetic) grease on the oring so it won't pinch on you, apply a light bead of 515 or 518 on the outer edge of the cone and call it good. Little blue loctite on the 8mm bolts and don't over torque.
