Jet Pump Cap - what is the inside supposed to look like?

Just changed my jet pump oil - perhaps the most foul smelling liquid ever.

When I took off the cap (the cone shaped thing) to to drain the oil, I noticed that inside the cap was some sort of bushing that rests up against the pump. It looked pretty worn and the sides almost looked a bit melted. But the bushing still seemed to rest nicely against the pump. So, I am wondering if that is what the cap is supposed to look like. I should have taken a pic - but I was in a bit of a hurry.

The pump is all sealed up again, but if anyone can tell me that I might have a problem, I can pull the cap off again. Maybe others might have pics of what the inside of the cap is supposed to look like.

Thanks in advance!

The oil coming out stinks, and the new seadoo oil does also, I think in some protracted way maybe this is to keep fish away if it leaks? OK back to the question, if there was a leaky ring the oil you drained out would be milky colored, if just dark stinky oily stuff then your other pump seals are OK, refill with something from the 80-90 type oil, I use amsoil synthetic for 5+ years now without any adverse effects, other riders will chime in to mention what they have, just use whatever you can find easiest over and over like the engine injection oil - stick with one kind.

The oil was just black and stinky. I used the BRP Jet Pump Oil (in spite of its ridiculous price) to replace what was there. Seadoo has been working well too, so there is no reason for me to think that there was a problem, except for the misshapen bushing inside the cap.

Hows it goin ah...

Hey Newf...had the same problem this weekend myself... oil really stinks when family is comeing for T.G.D. in two hours. The pusher fell out when I went to empty the oil from the cone, I was not sure how it went together, came on here and Got the help I needed. Great group ! Special thanks to Young-SC-Owner._

Jet pump oil

Hey Newf...go to the " How to tech article section"of this forum.
How to change jet pump oil with pics by wutagoalie.
Go to google and look for" seadoo parts Ohio"this is a good site .The background is light blue in color. In the tech section I found a picture and details on the nose cone and pusher. E.T.

Thanks - got it. Pics are great.

By the way - use the term Newf carefully. We tend to get overly sensitive on its use these days and have a tendancy to throw big rocks (with high precision) at mainlanders who use it in gest. I also hear that Nova Scotianers are big targets. :lols:
